The Work Tool Manager is responsible for the overall performance of Caterpillar work tools

across the dealership, with a focus on inventory management, product expertise, sales

support, and profitable growth. This position serves as the dealership subject matter expert

for Cat work tools and works closely with sales, service, parts, and management to ensure

the right work tools are available and properly matched to client applications. This person

owns key performance measures including inventory levels, gross profit growth, months of

sales on hand, work tool yield, and overall work tool sales performance.

Primary Job Responsibilities

• Own and manage Caterpillar work tool inventory across the dealership, including

stocking levels, availability, aging, transfers, and disposition of slow-moving

inventory.

• Monitor and manage months of sales on hand to maintain appropriate inventory

levels while supporting sales demand and minimizing excess or aged inventory.

• Drive work tool revenue and gross profit growth through sales opportunities, product

mix, pricing discipline, and margin management.

• Monitor work tool yield and partner with sales management to increase work tool

attachment opportunities with new and used machine transactions.

• Maintain expert-level knowledge of Cat work tool products, applications,

compatibility, features, benefits, and competitive positioning.

• Assist sales reps with work tool selection, configuration, compatibility, pricing,

availability, and client application requirements.

• Provide product training and ongoing support to sales reps and dealership personnel

to improve work tool knowledge and selling effectiveness.

• Analyze sales, inventory, margin, aging, and yield data and provide regular

performance updates, forecasts, and recommendations to sales management.

• Coordinate with Caterpillar, sales, service, and parts on work tool programs, ordering,

demonstrations, installations, deliveries, and sales opportunities.

• Develop plans to reduce aged inventory, improve inventory turns, grow market

performance, and build positive relationships with Riggs team members, Caterpillar

representatives, and clients.

Preferred Experience

• Bachelor’s degree, 5 years of comparable experience, or equivalent combination of

both.

• 3-5 years of heavy equipment, work tool/attachment, sales, product support,

inventory management, or related experience preferred.

• Strong knowledge of Caterpillar equipment and work tool applications is preferred.
• Strong business awareness, analytical ability, and mathematical skills with an

understanding of gross profit, inventory turns, months of sales on hand, and yield

metrics.

• Ability to interpret sales and inventory data and translate findings into actionable

business plans.

• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel, Outlook, and other database or

reporting systems.

• Experience using DBS, SalesLink, Salesforce, or other Caterpillar/dealership systems

is preferred.

occasion. This position requires kneeling, standing, squatting, and grasping frequently.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

This position can be stressful during a high-volume industry. Ability to stay calm, prioritize,

and delegate time responsibility is a must.

Required travel up to 20%.

This position is considered a safety sensitive position.
