Seasonal Laborer 16+

Position Summary This summer seasonal position involves performing varied manual labor in the parks, trails, recreational facilities, and buildings of Marathon County and the City of Wausau. Tasks include groundskeeping, maintenance, event support, and custodial services under the direction of operations managers. Some positions require evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work hours and start dates will depend on candidate availability, department needs, and weather. Responsibilities Assist the public in a friendly and professional manner. Perform manual work such as cleaning facilities and grounds, painting, landscaping, and construction/plumbing assistance. Open and close facilities according to established policies. Set up and tear down facilities for special events or rental groups. Work independently or under guidance of full‑time employees in repair and maintenance work. Conduct groundskeeping duties including mowing, landscaping, plant and flower care, tree care, planting, weed removal, and sports field maintenance. Maintain pools, playground equipment, ball diamonds, and facilities, and perform minor repairs and painting. Operate power equipment such as zero‑turn mowers, push mowers, pool vacuums, table saws, drills, and string trimmers. Drag, groom, and assist with maintaining ball diamonds, sports fields, and playgrounds. Provide custodial services, general cleaning, and trash removal at facilities, parks, and pools. Perform other related work as required. Qualifications Minimum age 16 years. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Skill in keeping timely, accurate records of work requests, destruction and loss forms, and public incident forms. Knowledge of safety rules and the ability to follow them. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions (sun, heat, humidity, rain, cold). Effective communication skills with park users, coworkers, and supervisors. Ability to contribute to a positive work culture that fosters excellent customer service and teamwork. Compensation Starting hourly rate: Year 1 – $14.50, Year 2 – $14.75, Year 3 – $15.00 . This is a seasonal position with no benefits.
