Mental Health Therapist

Location: Troy, MI or Grand Rapids, MI (Grand Rapids preferred)
Compensation: $25.00–$40.00 per hour ($52,000–$83,200 annually, based on 40 hours per week)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Arrangement: Onsite only; no remote or hybrid options available

Position Summary

Our client is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Therapist to provide high-quality therapeutic services to individuals experiencing a variety of psychological and emotional challenges. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting individuals with traumatic brain injuries (TBI), trauma-related conditions, and other mental health concerns. This role involves conducting clinical assessments, developing treatment plans, providing individual and group therapy, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to support client progress and community reintegration.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide crisis intervention and stabilization for clients experiencing psychological distress.

• Assess client risk factors, including suicide, abuse, neglect, and other safety concerns, and develop safety plans as needed.

• Conduct intake assessments and clinical evaluations to identify client and family needs.

• Establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with clients.

• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans and therapeutic goals.

• Provide individual, group, and family counseling tailored to client needs.

• Monitor client progress and adjust treatment approaches as appropriate.

• Facilitate psychoeducational groups focused on life skills, coping strategies, community reintegration, mindfulness, and brain function education.

• Provide guidance and mentorship to interns as needed.

• Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity when working with diverse populations.

• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary clinical team to develop and implement effective treatment strategies.

• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.

• Utilize computer systems and software for documentation, research, and data management.

• Submit clinical and cognitive therapy records to relevant stakeholders, case managers, supervisors, and directors.

• Prepare weekly therapy updates, billing documentation, mileage and expense reports, and activity summaries for the Program Director.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or Psychiatry from an accredited university.

• Current Michigan licensure to practice in the applicable professional discipline.

• Advanced practice credentials in supervision, as required.

• Knowledge of and experience working with individuals who have sustained traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

• Prior professional experience demonstrating competency in clinical and therapeutic responsibilities.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and documentation skills.

• Ability to prioritize responsibilities and maintain accurate, orderly records.

• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

• Proficiency with computers and clinical documentation software.

• Reliable transportation, a valid Michigan driver's license, and current automobile insurance.

• Professional demeanor, sound judgment, integrity, and a positive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least two years of post-master's professional experience.

• Experience providing therapeutic services to individuals with TBI or other complex mental health needs.
