Congregate Residential Counselor - Per Diem

The Home for Little Wanderers' Harrington House in Dorchester is looking for Per Diem Residential Counselors to care for children in this location. How You’ll Be Making a Difference Children or adolescents aged 8‑15 in transition back to families or independent living need support for successful community reintegration. The program provides residential treatment in a safe, structured home‑like environment. Children participate in school, extracurricular activities, clinical, health, psychiatric, educational assistance, milieu therapy, and case management services. Under the direction of the Residential Supervisor, the Residential Counselor provides a safe, supportive environment for children. Communicate with counselors from previous shifts to ensure continued flow of information and coordinate activity logs of daily living. What to Expect in the Role Pass a CORI/background check and possess a valid ID. Be physically active for an 8‑10 hour shift. Participate in verbal de‑escalation and physical intervention with youth. Multi‑task in a changing, fast‑paced treatment environment. Receive and implement feedback in real time and through structured supervision. Work evenings, holidays, and weekend shifts as required. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Life experience with parenting and/or childcare preferred. Valid driver’s license required. Physical Requirements Continuous walking, standing, climbing, and lifting for 6‑7 hour shifts. Ability to restrain using proper TCI techniques when needed.
