Family Support Worker - Family Services - 30hrs/wk

$21 - $24 per hour

Job Overview Under general supervision of the Center Director and in collaboration with the Family Services Coordinator, this role implements or facilitates family development and community integration. The position integrates parent and family engagement strategies into all program services to support family well‑being and promote children’s learning and development. Essential Functions Enter, maintain, and continuously update Child Plus data‑based family engagement modules, ensuring the production of an accurate Program Information Report. Maintain an assigned caseload of 55‑69 families and collaborate with Content Coordinators and Managers. Recognize parents as their children’s primary teachers, implementing intentional strategies to engage parents in their children’s learning and development, including specific strategies for father engagement. Develop and nurture relationships with parents, encouraging trust and respectful, ongoing two‑way communication that respects diverse cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds. Provide parents with opportunities to participate as employees or volunteers and offer a research‑based parenting curriculum that builds knowledge and provides practical skills. Conduct family engagement services in the family’s preferred language or through an interpreter, creating a safe environment for sharing personal information. Assist families in achieving individualized family engagement outcomes, identifying interests, needs, and aspirations related to family engagement. Offer activities that support parent‑child relationships and child development, including language, dual‑language, literacy, and bi‑literacy development where appropriate. Educate parents about the importance of regular attendance and partner with them to promote consistent attendance. Implement a family partnership process that includes a family partnership agreement and ongoing review of progress, goals, and strategies. Assist parents or legal guardians with signing in and out of their children and follow up on absences or late arrivals. Provide services and support for children with disabilities, fostering parental confidence and early learning. Implement intake and family assessment to identify family strengths and needs, aligning with the Head Start Parent Family and Community Engagement Framework. Coordinate parent education and training, including prenatal education, breast‑feeding information, and health resources. Complete child strengths and needs assessments within required timelines. Conduct parent meetings in collaboration with educational staff. Collaborate with Content Coordinators to incorporate resources into the program for mental health, childcare, substance abuse treatment, education, employment training, income support, transportation, pregnancy, health, safety, nutrition, and other requested topics. Complete assigned record‑keeping duties, tracking reports, and data input in a timely manner. Education and Certification High School Diploma, GED, or national equivalent. Must obtain or possess a credential/certification in Social Work, Sociology, Human Services, Family Services, or Counseling within 18 months of hire. Must possess and maintain a current pediatric (infant/toddler) CPR and first aid certificate. Must complete California‑mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training and Pesticide Safety Training within 18 months of hire. Experience 1‑2 years of clerical and/or administrative support experience. 2‑5 years of experience planning and implementing activities for an agency or organization. 2‑5 years of experience building rapport with diverse families of young children and community agencies. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of Microsoft Office and related software; data entry software, especially Child Plus. Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to work cooperatively with diverse individuals and groups. Sound judgment, planning, and time‑management skills. Ability to follow policies and procedures of Head Start Performance Standard, Head Act, and related state and federal regulations. Ability to pass a post‑offer medical examination, tuberculosis test, and obtain required fingerprint and criminal background clearances. Physical ability to occasionally lift 0‑40 lbs, stand up to 3 hours per day, sit up to 8 hours per day, and walk up to 3 hours per day. Travel: Locally 50% of the time. Exposure to environmental hazards such as noise, heat, dust, and bodily fluids (20‑50% of worktime).
