Senior Construction Manager

What You Will Do Senior Construction Manager to join the Construction Services Team in Columbia, SC or Charleston, SC. Work on transformative transportation infrastructure projects, including highways, bridges, and traffic engineering. Ensure design and construction obligations are met in compliance with federal and state laws, policies, and guidelines. Conduct and document project meetings with clients. Manage construction field personnel, including teaming partners. Prepare construction contracts and cost estimates. Prepare and monitor project schedules and budgets. Prepare and issue reports and correspondence. Approve quantities for measurement and payment purposes. Approve construction payment applications. Negotiate and approve construction change orders. Resolve technical issues. Perform constructability reviews and value‑engineering studies. Lead risk‑management assessments. Prepare and monitor quality control and assurance plans. Develop standard operating procedures. Manage clients and project teams. Ensure financial and production success of Construction Service‑related projects. Assist with and/or lead the planning, coordination, and execution of Construction Service projects. Oversee and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Oversee and schedule construction engineering inspection activities. Evaluate project issues and provide solutions to address deficiencies. Manage construction service equipment inventory and maintenance. Assist with development and review of project proposals. Assist with internal training. Maintain competency and awareness of safety compliance and programs. Perform other job responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications and Experience 15–20 years of civil/construction engineering or related experience. Valid U.S. driver’s license (required for project travel). Prior experience on SCDOT construction projects preferred. Active engagement in inclusive problem‑solving and reciprocal learning. Criminal background history check required for airports, municipalities, railroads, and other clients. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related discipline from an ABET‑accredited program. Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of South Carolina. Engineers licensed in other U.S. states must obtain a South Carolina license within six months of hire. Core Competencies Knowledge of applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations. Competitive construction contract, estimate preparation, and compliance expertise. Construction engineering policies, phasing, and sequencing on interstate widening, bridge, and interchange projects. Work‑zone traffic control and traffic‑management skills. Payment concepts, methods, and policies. Engineering principles and practices applied to complex projects. Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills. Logical reasoning, problem‑definition, and decision‑making to support business objectives.
