Pharmacy Technician - 7on/7off, Evenings, Inpatient

The Pharmacy Technician - Inpatient role is based in Building C on the second floor at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital, located between the operating room and an ICU within a busy, 256-bed inpatient setting. This pharmacy supports a high-volume operation with a team of approximately 18 pharmacy technicians, 20 pharmacists, and on-site management, and caregivers interact closely with nurses, pharmacists, buyers, and fellow technicians throughout the day. The role offers a high level of autonomy while working in close collaboration with pharmacists and includes responsibilities such as medication picking, receiving and handling narcotics, triaging workflow needs, answering phones, managing re-dispenses, and responding to the pharmacy door. The team culture is hardworking, reliable, and patient-centered, with a shared focus on accuracy, responsiveness, and delivering safe, timely medication support to inpatient care teams.

A caregiver in this position works a 7-on, 7-off schedule, Tuesday through Friday from 11am-9:30pm and Saturday - Monday from 9am-9:30pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.

• Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.

• Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.

• Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.

• Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.

• Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED

• Licensed in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician

• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) upon or within 18 months of hire

• Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds

• Basic computer skills

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program

• Six months of hospital experience

• Prior Inpatient experience

Physical Requirements:

• Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
