Library Assistant (Position #1), Allwood Branch

A part-time library assistant position is available in the Circulation Department of the Allwood Branch Library. All pages, library assistants, and other non-librarian staff may apply. Qualifications Comfortable learning and using new technology, especially as it relates to the library Able to demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills Interested in promoting library services and programs to the public Excited to work in a busy department as it continues to grow and evolve Responsibilities Library assistants work in the circulation department managing patron accounts, issuing library cards according to Clifton and PALS Plus policies, checking various types of items in and out to users, collecting fines and fees, answering questions related to library and PALS Plus consortium usage, assisting patrons with simple computer usage, shelving library materials, packaging and labeling library materials for shipping and unpacking and routing in deliveries, and assisting the Circulation Department with other needs as necessary. They must work both independently and as a team member. Strong computer and technology skills are required. Excellent customer service skills are essential. Flexibility, adaptability, creative thinking, and willingness to try new things are very important as we evolve the library to serve changing community needs. Schedule The position requires 12 hours per week, for a total of 24 hours over a two‑week period. This schedule is primarily evening hours and every Saturday. Flexibility in scheduling is a plus as we adapt to changing coverage needs. A general schedule for the position currently includes: Schedule 1 & 2: Monday 6‑9; Tuesday 6‑9; Wednesday 6‑9; Saturday 11‑2 Compensation and Benefits Starting salary is $17.98 per hour and includes paid sick, vacation and personal time on a work‑to‑earn basis. You must be at least 16 years old to apply. New hires age 18 and over require a criminal background check. Actual starting date for new hires will be determined based on results and qualifications. Additionally, we have reopened on Sundays at the Allwood Branch seasonally, October – mid‑December and mid‑January – May. This provides an opportunity in the future for extra work on a separate schedule (if required, no more than one Sunday per season).
