Title: Civil Engineering Technician - Substation

Location: Ann Arbor, MI (Onsite 5 days/week; must be located within 50 miles of the Ann Arbor office)

Hire Type: Contract to Hire

Shift : Onsite, Standard Business Hours (5 days/week)

Compensation: Up to $43/houe

Must have Skill Set: Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley MicroStation experience


Overview:

An organization is seeking a Civil - Staff Engineering Technician - Substation to support Grid Solutions projects such as Substation and Overhead Transmission Line within the Technology, Commercial & Industrial Market Sector. This role contributes to the planning, design, and implementation of site development-including grading and drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities-by developing and modifying technical deliverables, site plans, and utility layouts using advanced techniques in Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley MicroStation while providing technical guidance and quality control across project outputs.

Job Duties:

• Apply knowledge of standards, systems, document control, applicable codes, and company policies while reviewing project requirements to determine the correct format and contents of required deliverables.
• Apply foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts, solutions, technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables utilizing digital tools and CAD software.
• Perform design calculations, detailed material quantities, estimates, and records while coordinating with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
• Proactively apply quality programs to deliverables, ensuring personal accuracy, compliance with codes and standards, and consistency across project outputs.

Qualifications:

• Typically a minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
• Relevant coursework in civil engineering principles, site development, and design practices.
• Associate's degree or relevant technical certification in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• Demonstrated experience supporting engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables, performing design calculations, and coordinating project information.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley MicroStation.
• Strong communication, technical problem-solving, collaboration, and attention to detail.
