Hyperbaric Technician - Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine (19.99 Hours or Less, Non-Benefit Bearing)

Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Completed the approved Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS, National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT), or Department of Defense introductory course pre/post hire Hyperbaric Chambers Acrylics course training. Existing Safe Director training course completion (Will be required if not already completed). Certification as a hyperbaric technician (CHT) BLS certification Completes initial/annual skills check lists as required by the facility Job Summary Scope/Function: Under the direction of the Medical Director of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Department, the Hyperbaric Technician: Operates the hyperbaric chambers to deliver hyperbaric oxygen to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Medicine Physician. Provides safe operations of hyperbaric oxygen chambers to patients in accordance with established policies and guidelines. Responsible to operate and maintain hyperbaric chambers and related equipment as per manufacturing recommendations. Maintains daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual logs as recommended by the manufacturing and facility policies and procedures. Serves as a Safety Director or Safety Officer for the department based on completion of an approved Safety Director course. Serves as the point person for assessment of materials that are appropriate for the use in and around hyperbaric chambers. Job Duties Responsible for chambers operations and patient safety during hyperbaric oxygen treatment Interprets and thoroughly understands meter reading in relationship to pressure Performs line-up, shutdown and all other operations procedures Maintains complete and accurate patient records pertaining to hyperbaric oxygen treatments including any and all correspondence with patients Determines and maintains expendable supply requirements Performs maintenance of the hyperbaric chambers and related equipment Conducts and coordinates all levels of system maintenance as required Lifts patients or transfers according to the established policies and procedures In charge of all hyperbaric equipment and gases Responsible for maintaining all facility safety-related standards as required by various licensing and regulatory agencies Ensures department compliance with NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities chapter on hyperbaric facilities and with internal safety policies and procedures Makes recommendations for the departmental safety policies and procedures as appropriate Reviews all department safety incidents, collects information regarding equipment/patient safety, report relevant incidents to the staff and periodically provides in-service training on accident prevention Maintains a safe environment in the hyperbaric facility for patients and staff and uses approved and recognized decompression procedures for all persons with hyperbaric exposure to inert gases Completes quarterly hyperbaric chamber fire safety drills which are tailored to improve staff response to emergencies Serves on the institution safety committee as requested by the hospital leadership Assists in daily operation of the department and performs duties and procedures as directed by the Nurse Manager and/or Medical Director Assists the health care team by preparing patients, chaperoning during examination procedures and assists with patient treatments. Assists with patient arrival and discharge. Accurately performs Point of Care Testing and collects other lab specimen including bloodwork as needed. Assists patients with activities and care as assigned by clinic personnel, and as indicated by the patient’s plan of care. Documents patient care in Epic. Communicates relevant information to the appropriate health care provider. Performs or assists others with aseptic techniques, isolation procedures, and infection control practices. Practices positive customer and peer interactions. Stocks rooms, carts, and cabinets as needed. Adheres to all department policies, procedures, and guidelines. Salary Range Actual salary commensurate with experience. Work Schedule 19.99 hours or less per week, no set schedule.
