We are currently recruiting to fill the following position:Job: Water Treatment Plant OperatorJob Code: C84 - JB-Water TrmtPlnt Oper 1SCA Occup: 25210 Water Treatment Plant OperatorSalary Grade: Federal Wage Determination or Collective Bargaining AgreementFLSA Status: Non-ExemptApproval Date: March 2017POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Water Treatment Plant Operator controls treatment plant machines, equipment, and water additives to purify and clarify water for human consumption and for industrial use.TYPICAL DUTIES:Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plantControls addition of chemicals (chlorine, ammonia, sodium hydroxide, lime, etc.) into waterMay adjust automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water.Monitor and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate water flowOperate agitators and valves within various water treatment processesControl pumping of purified water into the distribution system to maintain adequate supply and pressureClean sedimentation basins and backwash media filter bedsRepair and maintain machines and equipmentCollect and analyze water samples for various parameters to confirm adequate treatment processesMaintain necessary records and documentationRegular travel between work locations on base may be requiredPerform other duties as assigned* Denotes Essential Job FunctionMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Must possess applicable New Jersey Public Water Treatment System License (T1, T2, T3, or T4) as required;Minimum experience as per licensing requirements per NJ DEP (1 year to 10 years) depending on level of license;Good communication and interpersonal skills necessary to build good client relationships and to work well in a team-oriented environment as well as independently;Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities;Ability to follow established safety rules, to maintain a safe environment, adapt and respond to potentially hazardous conditions, and use the appropriate PPE;Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving and common sense skillsEDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma or GEDCERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIRED:The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:Valid Driver's LicensePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:Monitoring gauges, controls, and/or computer systemsLifting materials up to 35 poundsBending and stoopingClimbing laddersWORK ENVIRONMENT:Work is performed at a customer's location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment. May require driving to and from worksite locations. Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facility.
