Planning Analyst

Planning & Data Analyst to support utility planning initiatives through forecasting, data analysis, GIS, modeling, reporting, and technical documentation. This role involves transforming operational and planning data into actionable insights that inform system planning, infrastructure development, resource management, and long-term strategic decisions within the utility sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Support utility planning activities by developing forecasting models, performing data analysis, and creating analytical tools.
• Analyze historical and current utility data to identify trends, system requirements, and potential planning needs.
• Utilize GIS tools and spatial data to analyze infrastructure, service areas, and system characteristics.
• Develop, maintain, and validate forecasting models and datasets to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Prepare reports, dashboards, presentations, and technical documentation to communicate findings and methodologies.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, GIS, and data teams to gather information and improve planning workflows.
• Identify opportunities to enhance data quality, reporting processes, and forecasting techniques.
• Maintain organized records of models, analyses, assumptions, and results.

Required Qualifications

• Experience with forecasting, data analysis, and modeling.
• Proficiency with GIS platforms and spatial data analysis.
• Supportive experience in developing or supporting analytical and forecasting models.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to interpret complex datasets and produce clear, actionable insights.
• Experience in preparing professional reports and technical documentation.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple planning projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within the electric, water, or utility industry.
• Familiarity with utility system planning, capacity assessments, load forecasting, or long-range planning.
• Proficiency with GIS tools such as ArcGIS or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of SQL, Python, Excel, Power BI, or other data analysis and visualization tools.
• Exposure to engineering, operational, or infrastructure datasets.
• Understanding of transmission modeling, production cost analysis, and utility forecasting methodologies.
