Bus Monitor

The job of Bus Monitor is done for the purpose of assisting special education students while they are being transported to and from school; and providing some custodial work in the Transportation area. Essential functions include assisting other personnel, assisting special education students for special needs during transport, cleaning the bus for maintaining safe and sanitary conditions, ensuring teachers or aides are present to escort special education students to classrooms, instructing special education students for enforcing rules and regulations, monitoring students to prevent distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students/passengers, and reporting observations and incidents to appropriate personnel. The job also requires securing students and/or equipment with restraints, tie downs for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.

Job requirements include mental requirements such as learning development level B, problem solving level 1, physical requirements including physical skill level A and physical effort level 2, and social requirements including human relations skill level A and scope of contacts level 1. The work environment includes performance environment level A and physical working conditions level 2.

Experience, education, and certifications required include job-related experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card, a CPR/First Aid Certificate, and passing pre-employment and annual testing including an alcohol and drug test and DPS Physical Agility Test.

Compensation details include FLSA status as non-exempt, pay schedule as hourly grade 107, and a support 9 month work calendar.
