Terrestrial Species Supervisor

Conservation Biologist Supervisor (NS) – Helene Restoration Division, NCWRC Agency: North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) – state agency dedicated to conserving North Carolina’s wildlife resources and habitats. Overview Support ecological restoration and infrastructure recovery after Hurricane Helene. Home‑based position responsible for supervising terrestrial species restoration. Works with USFS and partners. Position ends September 2035. Responsibilities Provide administrative leadership and supervision of eight full‑time employees (four Conservation BiologistI and four Wildlife Conservation TechnicianI) on the Terrestrial Species Team. Coordinate field and restoration projects across aquatic and terrestrial species, habitat, genetics, infrastructure, and invasive species programs. Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget; track resources, manage budgets, and adjust resources to meet recovery objectives. Develop, review, and evaluate project and field work plans in accordance with NC Wildlife Action Plan species and species of greatest conservation need. Use ArcGIS to support planning and monitoring of restoration activities. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in wildlife or fisheries management, fisheries science, zoology, biological science, or a closely related curriculum from an accredited institution and four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience supervising field teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. Experience coordinating work across work groups and with partners to meet recovery and conservation goals. Knowledge of species of greatest conservation need and NC Wildlife Action Plan species ecology, genetics, habitat requirements, habitat management, monitoring, and restoration practices. Experience identifying challenges, conflict resolution, tracking resources, managing budgets, and project/resource adjustments to keep work aligned with recovery objectives. Proficiency with ArcGIS. Must reside in the Mountain Region (west of I‑77) and be willing and able to work from a home‑based office.
