Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center The Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center is a welcomed step forward in meeting the increased health care needs of today's Veteran population. This new facility replaces the Denver facility of 670,000 square feet with a new state of the art campus of approximately 1.2 million square feet on 31 acres, providing many new services to Veterans. The new Aurora, Colorado location is ideally located on the southeast corner of the former Fitzsimons Army Base just off Interstate 225, immediately west of RTD's light rail station and neighboring Children's Hospital and the University of Colorado Anschutz Health Care Campus. Position Overview

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition.
• Collaborating with healthcare team members and other interdisciplinary teams to facilitate positive patient care outcomes.
• Providing a full range of complex and comprehensive nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems.
• Accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of the job.
• Demonstrates organizational skills which enable completion of work in a timely manner with demonstrated ability to assume a leadership role in a patient-centered program.
• Establishes effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Prepare patients for surgical and diagnostic procedures and assist with procedures as necessary.
• Provide post-procedure and post-operative recovery care.
• Respond to emergency codes as directed and summon appropriate backup from clinical and hospital staff.
• Provide the full range of ICU nursing services within the professional scope of practice for a variety of post-operative and critically ill patients.
• Assists in emergency nursing procedures for prompt control of changes in the patient's condition.
• Keeps abreast of changing techniques in critical care nursing and maintains a high level of expertise in critical care.
• Head-to-toe assessments. Knowledge of normal versus abnormal findings and reporting of abnormal findings to Charge Nurse and/or M.D. if warranted.
• Critical thinking to intervene with appropriate intervention for urgent/emergent care.
• Care of acute and chronically ill patients.
• Knowledge of hemodynamics
• Basic IV and central line skills
• Basic understanding of cardiac monitoring equipment

Qualifications

• Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred) from an accredited program, college, or university.
• Hold a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
• Has been practicing actively as an RN for at least the last two years.
• Capable of providing complex and comprehensive nursing care for adult medical and surgical patients.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certifications.
• Has documented training and skills verification.
• Has been actively practicing as a registered nurse in an Intensive Care Unit for two years; or has been actively practicing in an acute and long-term setting for one year.
