Position Summary

The Lending Officer serves as a trusted financial partner to members by originating, underwriting, processing, and servicing consumer loans while delivering an exceptional member experience. This position is responsible for evaluating creditworthiness, making sound lending decisions within established authority limits, and identifying opportunities to help members improve their overall financial health.

The Lending Officer actively contributes to business development efforts, member retention, loan growth, and collection activities while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and credit union policies.

Essential ResponsibilitiesLending & Member Service

• Interview members and prospective members to identify borrowing needs and recommend appropriate lending solutions.

• Originate and process consumer loan applications including:

  • Auto loans

  • Recreational vehicle loans

  • Personal loans

  • Credit cards

  • Share-secured loans

  • Home equity and other approved lending products

• Analyze credit reports, income documentation, collateral information, and debt obligations.

• Make lending decisions within delegated authority and prepare recommendations for exceptions or higher-level approvals.

• Structure loans to meet both member needs and credit union risk standards.

• Explain loan terms, payment options, insurance products, and related services.

• Prepare and review loan documentation for accuracy and completeness.

• Ensure compliance with NCUA regulations, state regulations, BSA/AML requirements, and internal lending policies.

Portfolio Management & Collections

• Monitor loan portfolio quality and identify emerging risks.

• Assist members experiencing financial hardship by developing appropriate repayment solutions.

• Conduct collection activities on delinquent accounts while maintaining professionalism and member relationships.

• Recommend workout arrangements, extensions, or other loss mitigation strategies when appropriate.

• Assist with recovery efforts and collateral disposition activities.

Business Development & Relationship Building

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with members and Select Employee Groups.

• Participate in financial wellness events, community outreach programs, and employer group activities.

• Identify opportunities to deepen member relationships through additional products and services.

• Generate referrals for deposit products, digital services, and other credit union offerings.

• Support lending growth initiatives and strategic objectives.

Operational Excellence

• Maintain accurate loan files and records.

• Utilize lending and core processing systems efficiently.

• Stay current on lending regulations, industry trends, and economic conditions.

• Assist with process improvement initiatives designed to enhance member experience and operational efficiency.

• Participate in departmental and organizational projects as assigned.

QualificationsRequired

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Minimum three years of lending, underwriting, financial services, banking, or credit union experience.

• Strong understanding of consumer credit analysis and loan underwriting principles.

• Knowledge of lending regulations and compliance requirements.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.

• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial software systems.

Preferred

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.

• Credit union experience.

• Consumer lending authority and underwriting experience.

• Experience with collection management and delinquency resolution.

• Financial counseling or member advisory experience.
