The next Chief Executive Officer will build on this strong foundation while shaping a clear and forward-looking vision for the organization’s future.


This role is ideal for a leader who is both strategic and hands-on, someone who values relationships, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is energized by the opportunity to expand the YMCA’s reach and relevance. In close partnership with an engaged Board of Directors and a dedicated staff team, the CEO will translate vision into action by aligning strategy, operations, and community partnerships to meet evolving needs across Douglas County.


The CEO will advance key priorities by strengthening partnerships, developing staff leadership, and broadening the YMCA’s presence throughout the community. This leader will elevate organizational visibility, ensure long-term financial sustainability, and guide the YMCA into its next phase of growth, impact, and community leadership.

Qualifications

Criteria for Candidates:

• Accredited four-year college degree and/or equivalent work experience.

• Fiscally sound business management approach with a proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management of $3 million or more annually.

• Minimum of seven years of prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization, including direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.

• Ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.

• Ability to develop innovative programs and review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both economic sustainability and effectiveness in broadening engagement in the communities served.

• Strategic planning and fundraising experience, including annual campaigns and securing grants.

• Strong communication and public engagement skills, with the ability to serve as a visible and credible ambassador for the YMCA’s mission.

• Proven record of accomplishment in progressive budgetary leadership and advanced fiscal management practices.

• YMCA Organizational Leader Certification or ability to achieve certification within three years.

Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan
Work effectively with volunteers, community leaders, and key staff to create and develop a strategic plan that addresses the needs of the communities served by the Y and includes defined organizational strategies, a clear implementation plan with deliverables, and measurable goals.

Improve Operating Performance
Engage the board and appropriate staff to develop an annual tactical plan for identifying and achieving key goals and objectives toward operating with safe, relevant, and sustainable practices. Quickly address issues that may arise, forecast future needs, and manage and direct the Y’s operations and activities.

Fiscal Management
Use high-level financial analysis to forecast financial trends, growth, and stability, while consistently leading the organization to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs. Empower and guide staff leaders to lead their departments to successful financial operation. Develop and implement stewardship strategies.

Position the Y as a Vital Partner for Community Change
Serve as an ambassador for the mission, purpose, and vision for the YMCA within the community. Possess the ability to develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds, while always upholding the highest standards and values of the Y. Ensure the Y is seen as a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by connecting all people to their potential, purpose, and each other.

Steward Fundraising Efforts
Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan that will establish the YMCA as a leading nonprofit organization within the community through the engagement of members, volunteers, staff, and donors. Identify the need for successful capital fundraising, while taking the organization to a new level of effectiveness and impact in annual giving and endowment.

Build and Lead Staff
Ensure a talent development system is in place and executed effectively with cultural competence. Hire, motivate, nurture, retain, and hold staff accountable for key objectives. Work towards recruiting, retaining, developing, and promoting staff. Encourage the team by creating a spirit of camaraderie, connection, and sense of mission and purpose. Create a learning organization to help staff achieve their highest potential.

Branch Information: The YMCA of Douglas County is a full-service facility of approximately 67,000 square feet in Roseburg, Oregon. The facility serves as a central gathering place for wellness, recreation, youth development, family engagement, and community connection, offering a broad range of spaces designed to support members of all ages and abilities.


The facility includes a comprehensive aquatic center featuring two indoor pools-a six-lane, 25-yard lap pool and a 25-yard therapeutic/recreation pool with lift accessibility-along with two hot tubs, a sauna, and a steam room.


Fitness amenities include a full wellness center with cardio and strength areas, free weights, functional training space, personal training areas, two group exercise studios, and a 3,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor functional fitness courtyard.


Additional amenities include a full-size gymnasium and courts for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball; youth and family activity spaces; licensed preschool space; childcare areas; teen spaces; locker rooms and individual shower rooms; community and multipurpose rooms; a roller skating rink through a shared-use partnership; and administrative offices supporting membership, finance, development, childcare, and operations.

• Youth Development: Licensed childcare, after-school care, youth sports, and the Roseburg Y Junior Cheer program.
• Aquatics: Swim lessons, competitive swim team, and aquatic exercise programs that promote safety and wellness.
• Health & Wellness: Group exercise classes, pickleball, and fitness programs designed for individuals of all ages and abilities.

SALARY, BENEFITS, & CRITERIA

Salary Range: $115,000 to $130,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.


Benefits:

• YMCA Retirement contribution once eligibility is met: 7% paid by the Y and 5% paid by the employee.
• YMCA 403(b) savings account, 100% employee contribution.
• Health plan (100% paid by Y; 50% paid by employee for spouse and family).
• Dental plan (100% paid by Y).
• Paid Time Off (PTO): Accrued vacation and sick days per personnel policy.
• Other benefits per personnel policy.

Residency Expectation: Living in the YMCA’s service area is required.
