Job Title: Nursing - RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: RN Medical Center Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 hours Experience: 2 years License: RN Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Skills required: - Cardiac gtts (Primacor, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine) - Heparin - Lasix - Insulin gtt - Chest tube management - Tracheostomy care - Telemetry reading - Wound care Description: The facility is a Level III Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and Magnet Designation. It is also a Comprehensive Stroke Center with 933 beds available. The unit manages patients coming from a cath lab, amputations, and pre-surgical stages. Patients typically do not return unless no intervention was performed during their surgery. Specific patient types include open heart and vascular patients, CHF patients, and those requiring EP studies, atrial fibrillation monitoring, and dysrhythmias management. The patient-to-nurse ratios are 1:4-5 during days and evenings, and 1:6-8 during overnight shifts. The unit has additional support including a charge nurse on day shifts managing 2-3 patients, and full assignments on night shifts. There is also a unit secretary available 24/7 and centralized telemetry monitoring with a dedicated telemetry technician. Phlebotomy services will assist with peripheral blood draws. The charting system used is EPIC. Nurses may float to other inpatient areas, including ICU, to care for appropriate medical-surgical patient assignments. However, floating to ICU is a rare occurrence. The expectation for holiday coverage is one summer and one winter holiday per year. The facility adheres to a fatigue policy where staff cannot work more than 60 hours in a week or five consecutive 12-hour shifts. Scrub colors are flexible, but camo and denim are not permitted. Pain management documentation is required, indicating pain levels before and after administering pain medications. If a medication order does not correspond with the patient’s pain score, a new order must be obtained.
