Director, Product Management (New York)

Overview

Own the product direction for one of the largest sports sites on the internet. CBSSports.com is the front door to CBS Sports for tens of millions of fans. It is where scores, live game trackers, news, fantasy, and betting come together during the biggest moments in sports: the NFL, March Madness, the Masters, college football, the Champions League, and more. This role owns the product strategy for the full web experience.

You will lead a small PM team, work directly with design and engineering leads across squads, and stay close to the work. This is a player‑coach role. You set the direction, and you are in the details.

Responsibilities

• Set product strategy for CBSSports.com and translate it into clear priorities teams can act on. Own the web plan. Decide what we’re building, sequence the work, balance risk, track outcomes, and make the hard calls on what to continue, change, or stop.
• Treat web as the reach and discovery engine for CBS Sports. Grow organic and direct traffic, sharpen high‑intent surfaces like game trackers and scores, and turn anonymous visitors into registered users.
• Own the role web plays in the broader portfolio: growing registered users at scale and converting web audiences into sticky products like the CBS Sports App.
• Prototype to think. Build working prototypes to remove ambiguity, test ideas with real fans, and learn before we commit. Use tools like Claude and Cursor to make concepts tangible, iterate on what you learn, and arrive at a better strategy because you held the thing in your hand.
• Coach and develop 1 to 2 PMs through structured feedback, calibration, and deliberate growth planning.
• Partner with design and engineering directors on cross‑squad alignment, delivery cadence, and how we evolve our process.
• Partner with editorial to make web the place where great storytelling and great product meet.
• Represent product to executive leadership. Turn fan behavior, competitive dynamics, and product performance into a clear narrative that builds trust.

Basic Qualifications

• 10+ years in product, with meaningful time in a leadership role. Experience owning strategy, shipping against it, and developing other PMs in consumer web at scale, ideally high‑traffic and real‑time.

Additional Qualifications

• Strong prioritization instincts. Hold site‑level strategy and problem‑level detail in the same day.
• Fluency with the levers that move large‑scale web: discovery and SEO, performance, identity and authentication, and conversion.
• Comfort prototyping in code with AI tools. Use Claude or Cursor to build something testable and learn from it.
• Fluency with product analytics, experimentation, and outcome accountability.
• An AI‑native working style. Use LLMs to think through problems and accelerate your own work, and have a point of view on how AI changes what a product team can do.

Salary and Benefits

Hiring salary range: $159,120.00 – $265,200.00. The range applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. The position is bonus eligible.
