Production Technician 1

Role Overview PIC, a Genus PLC company, is seeking a Production Technician to provide specialized animal care and technical reporting while performing husbandry tasks to ensure animal well‑being. The role demands autonomous work, effective collaboration across functional teams, strong communication, and problem‑solving skills. It also includes routine laboratory work, sanitation, SOP adherence, and data recording. The position is based at the Gourley facility in Alexandria, Minnesota. You Will Perform daily animal husbandry tasks in support of breeding and scientific research: Pig placement Pig healthcare and medication, including basic veterinary procedures Feeding management Environment, water, and ventilation management Collection of blood samples Production records keeping Maintain accurate and timely production information and records, as required Work as a team player by accomplishing daily department work requirements and lab/farm goals Assist in moving animals and maintaining efficient animal flows Treat sick animals with pharmaceuticals by injection, oral application, or other methods as required Maintain facility biosecurity, including sanitizing and washing multiple areas using high‑pressure equipment, office cleanliness, and laundry duties to avoid contamination of animals and research samples Assist with maintaining lab, office cleanliness, and laundry duties Perform semen evaluation on raw semen using a computer‑assisted evaluation program Operate packaging machines, enter data accurately for dose labels, and lift/separate semen pools up to 40 pounds Package product for shipment to customers Use a computer‑assisted evaluation program to check motility of samples from each batch produced Be flexible, with a willingness to change plans according to farm leadership direction Adhere to the company’s animal care policies and procedures, ensuring a physical environment that meets animal needs, adequate water and high‑quality feed, humane treatment, proper identification and treatment of animals requiring healthcare, and appropriate euthanasia guidelines. Read and understand the company’s emergency notification process and its application to the worksite. Abide by all company policies, procedures, and guidelines directed by farm leadership, including: The company’s Safety Program and all safety requirements. The company’s bio‑security protocols. All environmental laws and procedures, reporting environmental issues immediately to the supervisor. Work as a team player to accomplish daily department work requirements and farm goals. Requirements Previous livestock handling (preferred). Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment. Ability to follow instructions and handle standardized situations. Ability to perform in a fast‑paced environment while meeting performance expectations. Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. Minimal, if any, travel. High‑school diploma or equivalent. University degree in animal science or related field. Minimum of 2 years experience within intensive swine production systems.
