Position Overview

We are seeking a highly analytical, systems-minded Backend Engineer to join our core centralized Engineering division in a full-time remote capacity across India. Operating away from routine CRUD SaaS programming, you will step up to claim individual strategic operational accountability for building the distributed systems, robust APIs, and multi-agent infrastructure that power AI-driven enterprise execution. In this high-leverage and high-risk technical seat, you will design and scale secure backend services that orchestrate non-deterministic autonomous agents, enforce rigid enterprise compliance policies, and integrate deeply with legacy global ERPs and financial rails. This position requires a software engineering veteran who structures microservices frameworks fluidly, manages complex data normalization and message queues smoothly natively using relational database models, and codes resilient distributed architectures confidently natively using Python, Node.js, or Go.

Key Responsibilities

• High-Throughput Backend Architecture Engineering: Design, code, and deploy scalable distributed backend services and server-side logic cleanly natively utilizing Backend system principles to power real-time AI agent execution loops.
• Workflow Orchestration and State Management: Build and optimize highly resilient workflow engines, automated state machines, and policy enforcement layers tailored to govern complex multi-step enterprise spend processes.
• Deep ERP and Financial Rails Integration: Architect and maintain robust APIs and secure web service integrations to connect Freehand platforms directly with global ERP systems, procurement networks, and cross-border payment gateways, managing complex cross-system data transformation.
• Agent Execution Runtime Development: Program core agent runtime primitives—including tool calling matrices, runtime context management, long-term memory models, and multi-step sequential reasoning loops natively leveraging AI Engineer concepts.
• Traceability and Observability Instrumentation: Instrument agent execution paths with uncompromised transaction logs and full trace captures, tracking tool calls, LLM I/O streams, network latency patterns, and token cost economics.
• Automated Testing and Evaluation Harnesses: Build automated evaluation frameworks and replay-based regression test harnesses to validate agent behavior, task success rates, output quality bounds, and automated anomaly detection.
• Resilience and Failure Engineering: Enforce strong architectural guarantees around data consistency, idempotency keys, automated back-off retries, and graceful degradation tracks to safeguard production infrastructure against critical financial failure impact.
• Enterprise Security Controls Implementation: Protect highly sensitive financial data records by applying fine-grained access controls, role-based permissions, comprehensive audit logs, and modern network isolation controls.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Verified professional history running advanced backend software engineering, distributed systems development, core API architecture design, microservices provisioning, or financial technology consulting.
• Deep, authoritative technical command of modern system design principles, network protocols, server concurrency, data integrity trade-offs, and event-driven message queuing architectures.
• Expert-tier capability writing production-grade, fault-tolerant backend logic, and structuring scalable data pipelines natively utilizing Backend environments (specifically Python, Node.js, or Go).
• Practical operational familiarity designing database configurations, optimizing indexing schemas, and mapping transactional tables natively using SQL or advanced NoSQL database engines.
• Demonstrated history operating within high-stakes environments where backend application failures have immediate, measurable business and credit risk impact (such as financial systems or enterprise enterprise SaaS).
• Outstanding verbal, written, and cross-functional communication attributes in business-fluent English, enabling absolute confidence when presenting system designs clearly across distributed engineering cells.
