Cost Engineering / Consulting

Position Overview

Pacific Standard Plumbing is seeking an experienced and analytical Cost Engineering / Consulting professional to support project planning, cost analysis, estimating, budgeting, and financial decision-making for commercial, industrial, multi-family, and new-construction plumbing projects.

The Cost Engineering / Consulting professional will work closely with project managers, estimators, operations personnel, vendors, subcontractors, and leadership to develop accurate project cost estimates and help ensure projects are completed within established budgets and timelines.

This is a fully remote position with responsibilities centered on cost analysis, estimating, project documentation, financial modeling, and virtual collaboration with internal teams and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed cost estimates for plumbing installation, repair, replacement, maintenance, and new-construction projects.
• Analyze labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor, and other direct and indirect project costs.
• Review project drawings, specifications, scopes of work, proposals, and other documentation to identify cost requirements.
• Prepare project budgets, cost breakdowns, estimates, and financial reports.
• Evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing and compare quotations to project requirements.
• Research current material, labor, equipment, and service costs to maintain accurate estimating assumptions.
• Identify potential cost overruns, pricing risks, scope gaps, and other financial concerns before and during project execution.
• Assist project managers with cost forecasting and budget tracking.
• Review change orders and assess their financial impact on project budgets.
• Analyze actual project costs against estimates and identify significant variances.
• Assist with value-engineering opportunities designed to reduce unnecessary costs while maintaining quality, safety, and compliance.
• Maintain organized estimating records, cost databases, pricing information, and supporting documentation.
• Prepare cost summaries and recommendations for management review.
• Collaborate with operations and estimating teams to improve estimating accuracy and project profitability.
• Support bid preparation and competitive proposal development when required.
• Monitor project financial performance and provide timely updates regarding budget status.
• Help establish and maintain standardized cost-estimating procedures and methodologies.
• Participate in virtual project meetings and provide cost-related guidance to project teams.
• Perform other cost engineering, estimating, and consulting duties as assigned.

Pacific Standard Plumbing works across a range of commercial and facility environments, including healthcare, multi-family, industrial, and commercial properties.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Business, Quantity Surveying, or a related field preferred.
• 1+ years of experience in cost engineering, construction estimating, project controls, financial analysis, or a closely related field.
• Strong understanding of construction/project costing principles.
• Experience analyzing labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Strong Excel and spreadsheet modeling skills.
• Ability to interpret project scopes, specifications, drawings, proposals, and estimates.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, estimates, and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with plumbing, mechanical, construction, facilities, or building-services projects.
• Experience with construction estimating or project-management software.
• Knowledge of cost-control and project-management methodologies.
• Experience with change-order analysis and cost forecasting.
• Familiarity with construction materials, labor pricing, and subcontractor estimating.
• Experience working with commercial construction or new-construction projects.
• Engineering, construction, or cost-estimating certification is a plus.

Candidates should be comfortable working with:

Experience with estimating platforms, ERP systems, or construction-management software is preferred.

Compensation

• Annual Salary: $70,000–$112,000
