Senior Staff Accountant

This is an individual contributor role for an accountant who enjoys working through details, resolving discrepancies, and improving how work gets done. The successful candidate will bring sound accounting fundamentals, reliable follow-through, and the ability to manage assigned responsibilities independently while collaborating closely with the team. The role offers broad exposure to accounting in a private equity-backed software business, including NetSuite, software and services revenue, audit support, and acquisition integration. Initial priorities will be to add capacity to the close process, strengthen account reconciliations, and provide dependable coverage across key accounting activities. Key responsibilities General ledger and month-end close Prepare and record journal entries with clear supporting documentation, including accruals, prepayments, payroll, depreciation, amortization, and other assigned transactions. Own assigned monthly, quarterly, and year-end close tasks, meet agreed deadlines, and communicate outstanding items to the Controller early. Maintain supporting schedules for prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accrued liabilities, and other balance sheet accounts. Review account activity and period-over-period changes, investigate unusual items, and resolve coding, cutoff, or classification issues. Reconciliations and accounting operations Prepare bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations; investigate differences and follow reconciling items through to resolution. Reconcile relevant subledgers and supporting schedules to the general ledger and maintain an organized record of completed work. Partner with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and other business contacts to obtain support and ensure transactions are complete and recorded in the correct period. Provide backup support for billing, cash application, vendor transactions, expense reporting, and commission or payroll schedules as assigned, following established approval controls. Revenue and financial reporting support Support the Controller with revenue and deferred revenue schedules for software, maintenance, and Professional Services, following company policies and applicable accounting guidance. Help reconcile customer billing and project information to accounting records, investigating timing differences and escalating questions that require judgment. Prepare account analyses and supporting schedules for financial reporting, management questions, and the finance team's planning work. Audit controls and process improvement Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation and assist the Controller with auditor requests and routine tax-compliance support. Follow established review and approval procedures, maintain a clear audit trail, and flag control gaps or unsupported balances promptly. Use NetSuite and Excel to extract and validate information, maintain schedules, and improve recurring accounting processes. Document assigned procedures, support cross-training, and help reduce repetitive manual work and dependence on individual team members. Assist with account cleanup, data validation, and accounting integration activities as directed by the Controller. What we’re looking for A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field with a strong accounting foundation. Typically three to five years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on general ledger work, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close. A working knowledge of US GAAP and the ability to apply accrual accounting principles to day-to-day transactions. Experience independently managing assigned accounts and close tasks, with accurate, well‑organized supporting documentation. Strong Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, and reconciliation of information from multiple sources. Experience using an ERP or accounting system; NetSuite experience is preferred. Attention to detail, sound judgment, and the initiative to investigate discrepancies rather than leave issues unresolved. Clear communication, a collaborative approach, and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines and ask for guidance when needed. Experience in software, recurring revenue, Professional Services, public accounting, or a private equity-backed company is helpful. Familiarity with revenue recognition, sales‑tax support, or acquisition integration is a plus. A CPA or progress toward the designation is welcome but not required. What success looks like Assigned close tasks are completed accurately and on time, with clear support and timely escalation of issues. Account reconciliations are current, explainable, and reviewed, with aged or unusual items actively resolved. The accounting team has dependable additional capacity and better coverage of recurring responsibilities. Procedures and supporting schedules are easier to follow, maintain, and review.
