Summary:
Mary Washington Healthcare is seeking an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for a 13-week night-shift travel assignment supporting NICU, adult critical care, Emergency Department, stepdown/floor units, and pediatric patients. This is not a NICU-only position . The clinician must have strong hands-on NICU experience and be comfortable floating within their scope to meet facility needs.

The ideal candidate will have strong respiratory clinical skills including airway management, ventilator management, medication administration, arterial blood gases, oxygen therapy, suctioning, pulmonary toileting, CPAP/BiPAP, nebulizer treatments, and neonatal respiratory care.

Responsibilities:

• Provide respiratory therapy care across NICU, adult ICU/critical care, ED, stepdown/floor, and pediatric units .
• Provide hands-on care for neonatal and pediatric patients, including respiratory distress and other acute respiratory conditions.
• Perform airway management, suctioning, ET tube care, intubation assistance, extubation, and tracheostomy management.
• Manage and troubleshoot mechanical ventilation, including CPAP, BiPAP, SIMV, high-frequency ventilation, and other ventilator modalities.
• Perform and interpret arterial/capillary blood gases.
• Administer respiratory medications and aerosolized therapies.
• Provide oxygen therapy, HFNC, nebulizer treatments, pulmonary toileting, chest physiotherapy, and lung-inflation therapies.
• Assist with high-risk deliveries and neonatal respiratory procedures.
• Provide and manage CPAP/BiPAP and other neonatal respiratory support.
• Assist with neonatal/interdepartmental transports as needed.
• Float to other respiratory therapy areas within scope based on facility needs.
• Participate in required department meetings or review meeting minutes and acknowledge understanding when unable to attend.
• Maintain required documentation in Epic .

Key Requirements:

• Strong hands-on NICU experience is required. Candidates whose only NICU exposure is occasional floating should not be submitted .
• Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience required; 4 years preferred based on the requisition profile.
• Adult critical care and Emergency Department experience required/preferred based on assignment needs.
• Community hospital experience required.
• Trauma Level II experience required; Level I preferred.
• Must be able to float across NICU, adult critical care, ED, pediatric, and floor/stepdown settings.
• Travel experience required; first-time travelers may be considered.
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required.
• Must be available for 3 call shifts per 6-week scheduling period .
• Locals accepted.
• Block scheduling may be accommodated at manager discretion.
• RTO restrictions are at manager discretion.

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy/Respiratory Care program.
• Current credentials appropriate for practice as a Respiratory Therapist.

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience ; 4 years preferred.
• Strong NICU experience required.
• Adult critical care experience.
• Emergency Department experience.
• Community hospital experience required.
• Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I preferred.
• Experience with neonatal/pediatric respiratory care strongly preferred.
• Travel experience required; first-time travelers accepted.

License:

• Active Virginia Respiratory Therapist license required , or proof that the Virginia license has been applied for with the application submitted.
• A national license alone is not acceptable .
• Required: BLS, ACLS, CRT/CRTT .
• NRP preferred.
• RRT preferred.
• ACLS may be pending at start; clinician has a 90-day window from start date to obtain required ACLS certification.
