Receives Cytology samples and performs processing for high complexity analysis as defined by CLIA '88 in an accurate and timely manner with supervision. Performs all essential functions of a Testing Level II employee, as defined by the department. In addition, is responsible for all aspects of Non Gyn specimen preparation and assists with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA '88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). Personnel report to department supervisor. Performs well in the absence of a supervisor. SHIFT Monday-Friday 5pm-1:30 AM PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach and stretch frequently. May be required to use material handling equipment to push/and or pull up to 75 pounds and required to lift, push and/or pull up to 25 pounds. Must use standard precautions due to the threat of exposure to blood and body fluids. Able to communicate effectively and comprehend written and oral instructions. Requires significant use of computer, phone and general office equipment. Able to perform instrumentation maintenance to include adequate ability to grasp and handle objects. - Demonstrates highly developed interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in basic computer skills. Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skill, and high level of self-motivation.
- Must exhibit personal maturity and responsibility.
- Good reading, writing and math abilities. Communicates effectively in oral and written formats sufficient to demonstrate comprehension.
- Able to perform detailed work and to work with frequent interruptions in a stressful environment, multi-task, problem solve and memorize.
- Able to take direction and assimilate instructions quickly.
- Good organizational skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- High School graduate or equivalent and,
- Successfully completed military training of 50 or more weeks and served as a medical laboratory specialist OR,
- Associate's degree in any field with 20 hours of chemistry and/or biological sciences credits OR,
- 20 hours of chemistry and/or biological sciences credit with three (3) year's working in a clinical laboratory OR,
- MLT (ASCP)
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or related field.
- Applicable laboratory experience.
- Additional related education and/or experience.
