Ultrasound Technologist

Overview The Ultrasound Tech (Caregiver) provides excellent customer service by performing ultrasound examinations under the direction of a physician to identify abnormalities leading to patient diagnosis. Shifts for this position are on Monday and Tuesday from 8 am to 5 pm. Caregivers may be hired at Level I or Level II, depending on skills and experience. Responsibilities Maintain ARDMS and modality‑specific competency in all clinical and technical functions. Ensure proper patient identification, order verification, and preparation for the exam. Perform exams per department protocol and review images for quality, clarity, and accuracy. Complete studies within acceptable time limits without compromising patient care or quality. Assist and instruct students and other Radiology Techs in exam protocols, procedures, positioning, and equipment. Provide appropriate patient education, ensure patient comfort, and address concerns. Practice appropriate infection control and sterile techniques. Understand and operate equipment and related information systems to ensure quality images. Keep accurate records of patient information, procedures performed, and any adverse reactions. Follow protocols for medical necessity, coding, charging, consents, QC programs, and reporting equipment failures. Skills Follow protocols Equipment operation Patient identification Documentation Customer service Management reporting Vascular procedures Cleaning Imaging techniques Anatomical knowledge Prioritize tasks Effective communication Independent work Teamwork Emergency response Image evaluation Qualifications Ultrasound Tech I Registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) – successful completion of one registry pertinent to the department beyond physics (options include OB, abdominal, neuro, breast, pediatric, and vascular). Health Services BCLS – Basic life support (Certification for Healthcare Providers). Ultrasound Tech II Minimum of two additional years of experience relevant to the department post obtaining Ultrasound Tech I (primary children’s: one of the two years must be pediatric experience). American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) Registry – successful completion of one additional registry pertinent to the department beyond Ultrasound Technologist I or (SPI + 2 registries). Options include Ob/GYN, abdominal, neuro, breast, pediatric, vascular, or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) (primary children’s: one of the two registries must be pediatric). Health Services BCLS – Basic life support (Certification for Healthcare Providers). Preferred: 1 or more years of experience. Physical Requirements The job requires the employee to see and read information, labels, and assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and communicate verbally. It involves frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc. The employee will lift, carry, or move supplies and equipment, sometimes up to heavy weights, and walk or assist with transporting/ambulating patients. Standing in a stationary position for an extended period may also be required. Work Location Budge Clinic, Logan, Utah Compensation Hourly range: $38.77 – $59.82 (actual rate depends on experience).
