Print Operations Apprentice

Storyful

About the Program The Dow Jones Printing Plant Apprenticeship Program is a 6‑month immersive experience designed to give participants real exposure to how modern print operations work at the intersection of manufacturing and technology. Our apprentices work directly within the printing plants, gaining hands‑on experience across both traditional press operations, mechanics, and electrical maintenance and troubleshooting skills to support operations. They use operational systems for production of print products and a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for preventive and predictive maintenance. You’ll build skills that are relevant for the future of the industry and learn by doing, paired with experienced operators and mentors, supported through structured coaching sessions, and exposed to leaders across the business. Responsibilities Learn the fundamentals of press operations, including mechanics, color systems, and quality control. Support day‑to‑day production in a live printing environment. Monitor equipment and assist with preventive/predictive maintenance using a CMMS system. Work with Variable Data Printing (VDP) and digital pre‑press processes. Explore tools to improve efficiency in layout and production workflows. Contribute to projects focused on sustainability, efficiency, or process improvement. Troubleshoot mechanical and system‑related issues alongside experienced team members. Qualifications Interest in manufacturing, engineering, or technical operations. Curiosity about how things work—both mechanically and digitally. Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills. Willingness to learn in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment. Basic computer or technical skills (a plus, but not required). A proactive mindset and eagerness to take initiative. Who Should Apply? Students interested in pursuing a career in manufacturing, engineering, or print operations. This program is ideal for those looking to gain hands‑on experience and develop both technical and digital skills in a real‑world production environment. Applicants must be 18years of age or older.
