Registered Nurse - CVICU

Job Description

Job Summary:
Provide specialized nursing care to cardiac and thoracic surgery patients in a 28-bed CVICU setting. Deliver critical care on a 24/7 basis, supporting advanced cardiac procedures and transplant patients while maintaining high standards of patient safety and clinical excellence.

Responsibilities:

• Administer and titrate critical care drips, including inotropes and sedatives, according to physician orders and clinical protocols.
• Monitor patient vitals, interpret EKG strips, and oversee telemetry equipment to ensure timely responses to patient status changes.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including intensivists, APPs, RTs, and charge nurses, to coordinate patient care plans.
• Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments, treatments, and interventions in compliance with hospital policies.
• Adhere to hospital protocols for patient safety, infection control, and emergency procedures.
• Support unit orientation and training for new staff members and travelers to ensure seamless integration into the team.

Qualifications:

• Current RN license with BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in a CVICU or similar critical care environment.
• Proven ability to manage complex cardiac patients, including those with ECMO, LVAD, or post-transplant status.
• Demonstrate proficiency in reading telemetry strips and managing titratable drips.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
