View phone number on click.appcast.io The Juvenile Supervision Specialist is a professional person appointed to provide direct care residential program services for youth at the Miami Valley Juvenile Rehabilitation Center in Xenia, OH. The Juvenile Supervision Specialist has primary responsibility for meeting the physical, emotional and behavioral needs of the population, while promoting the goals, objectives and mission of the organization. The Juvenile Supervision Specialist is an unclassified employee appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of, the Greene County Juvenile Court Judge under the provision of 2151.13 of the Ohio Revised Code. The Juvenile Supervision Specialist is charged with providing a standard of performance in accordance with the Ohio Administrative Code and the Ohio Revised Code regarding the Ohio Department of Youth Services standards for Community Correctional Facilities, the American Correction Association standards for Juvenile Residential Correctional Facilities and the Prison Rape Elimination
Act.
Punctuality, as well as regular and consistent attendance are essential to meet operational needs and commitments of the facility.
Shifts Available: 1st, 2nd and 3rd
*There is a $2/hr shift supplemental for 2nd and 3rd shift. Duties/Responsibilities JOB DUTIES (Examples may not be comprehensive): 1. Residential Program Direct Care: Supervise and interact positively with youth in assigned activities; direct and supervise the movement of juveniles; provide direct support for volunteers, interns, parents, visitors and service personnel; ensure compliance with program rules, policies and procedures; carry out daily assignments; ensure quality and timeliness of program schedule; delivery of Behavior Reinforcement System and Sanctions pursuant to
principles of cognitive-behavioral interventions; provide structured feedback to youth regarding behavior; facilitate Character Development group sessions including structured social skills training and cognitive-re-structuring; collaborate with other staff regarding delivery of various needs in the milieu; intervene and direct crisis intervention pursuant to policy and CPI training; counsel youth during outbursts of emotion/aggression to defuse volatile situations; mediate disputes between youth; supervise and participate in structured recreational periods; encourage physical fitness by example; teach sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play in all activities; facilitate specialized education programs such as Life Skills. 2. Security/Control: Randomly search youth as part of search for contraband; conduct room searches; conduct frisk searches or strip searches pursuant to policy and procedure; ensure safety, health and security standards are upheld; transport youth to and from Juvenile Court hearings and other temporary releases; monitor youth on Transition Releases; ensure regular visual and audio checks; maintain control by physical force pursuant to crisis prevention training to protect self, staff and youth from physical aggression; operate electronic security system; supervise visitation of youth by parents, caseworkers, clergy, attorneys and other visitors; screen for contraband/potential weapons; ensure shift responsibilities are completed including Shift Summary inspection; receive and process youth into facility; secure personal property of youth including medication. 3. Personal Hygiene/Health and Cleanliness: Monitor personal hygiene practices of youth daily; observe and report illness or injury to Nurse; assist in self-administration of medications pursuant to medical treatment plans; administer first aid; supervise and assist youth in the cleaning/maintenance of the facility; supervise youth in personal laundry care; stock supplies; supervise service and consumption of meals. 4. Records/Reports: Prepare and maintain records and reports on resident activities, critical incidents, behavior and progress; maintain daily written logs for each youth; maintain daily log of activities; review records, prepare serious incident reports; prepare reports regarding safety and emergency exercises; ensure accuracy/neatness of documentation and records, written logs and computer records. 5. Quality Assurance: Complete work orders regarding cleaning/maintenance tasks; advocate for program development to effect program improvements; deliver program curricula pursuant to training/resource materials; deliver programming pursuant to program schedule. 6. Meetings/Committees: Staff meetings, Team meetings and/or other meetings or committee service as assigned. 7. Support Functions: Community service; cultural enrichment; Support Staff function; file maintenance (program documents); special projects/events/programs; assist in policy and program planning; community and public relations including presentations to tour groups. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Examples may not be comprehensive): Associate's Degree in counseling, social work, sociology, corrections, humanities or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience with youth and/or juvenile offenders sufficient to perform the job duties as listed above; satisfactory completion of physical examination resulting in finding of physical health adequate to perform the required functions of the job; satisfactory completion of professional references check; satisfactory completion of criminal background check; satisfactory completion of sexual risk assessment (if hired after 2015); satisfactory completion of Ohio Attorney General Offender Search; affirmative duty to report prior and/or current misconduct; confirmation of valid Ohio driver's license; confirmation of degrees, licenses and/or certificates. Supplemental Information WORK CONDITIONS (Examples may not be comprehensive): MVJRC is a medium security, residential correctional treatment facility for male and female youth ages 12-18. Operations occur in a secured and locked environment. The population consists of at-risk, emotionally disturbed and/or potentially violent felony offenders. The population includes juvenile sexual offenders. There is potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or parasites. All workers are mandated reporters required to report harassment, abuse and/or neglect pursuant to established policy and procedure. Work is to be conducted, at times, in a fast-paced environment involving deadlines. Routine physical requirements include reaching, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, writing/keyboarding, talking, hearing, seeing, driving and repetitive motions. Tasks minimally require exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Additional physical requirements for staff in contact with juvenile residents include readiness for extreme exertion in the form of team-based physical restraint of acting out/potentially assaultive youth, physical transport of resistant youth, self-defense maneuvers pursuant to crisis prevention training and/or exertion resulting from first aid/CPR/AED interventions. Sedentary work to involve sitting some of the time. Standing and walking required frequently. On call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week; full-time (60-80 hours per two-week pay period) or part-time (less than 60
hours per two-week pay period). Variable shift assignments may be required. Week-end and holiday shifts required.
The Juvenile Supervision Specialist is classified as an essential worker and is required to report to work during inclement
weather and/or other emergencies. FLSA: Non-Exempt. TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT (Examples may not be comprehensive): Minimum of 40 hours of orientation training in policies, procedures and practices with an additional 80 hours of training within the first year of employment. Minimum of 40 hours of annual training after the first year of employment. Required training includes but is not limited to: CPR/1st Aid/AED certification; CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention; Greene County Risk Management training (including Fire Safety and Prevention, Hazard Communication and Defensive Driving); Prison Rape Elimination Act policy, procedure and practice; Greene County Personnel Handbook; and Introduction to Cognitive Behavioral Interventions.
There is a wide variety of benefits available to full-time permanent and some part-time permanent Greene County employees. These benefits include: health, dental, vision, life insurance, optional life insurance plans, wellness program, employee assistance program, and deferred compensation plans.
The County pays 80% of the health care premium and 39% of the dental premium. All full-time employees are eligible for $50,000 group life insurance paid 100% by the County. NOTE: Employees who are non-permanent, seasonal, intermittent, part-time scheduled for less than 60 hours per pay period, and external interim, are not benefit eligible.
