Maintenance Reliability Engineer

Position Summary

The Reliability Engineer ensures the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of equipment and processes within the mill. This position applies engineering expertise and reliability methodologies to identify and eliminate failures, extend asset life, reduce maintenance costs, and improve overall production performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations and implement corrective actions.

• Apply reliability methods (FMEA, RCM, life cycle cost analysis) to identify opportunities to improve system design, preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, operator care, and other strategies. Tracks project activity and results

• Develop a comprehensive, interdepartmental program to systematically identify, eliminate and prevent problems consistent with maintenance department guidelines and budget constraints.

• Prepares diagrams, charts, drawings, calculations, and reports for defining reliability problems and makes recommendations for improvements

• Evaluate preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for cost and reliability impacts.

• Lead Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) projects for targeted systems.

• Originates and develops analysis methods for determining reliability of components, equipment, and processes. Incorporates audit results, shop reports, Root Cause Analysis findings and corrective actions, and emerging technology and techniques in a continuous effort to improve specifications.

• Coordinate the development of Mechanical & Electrical Equipment Specifications including but not limited to OEM new and rebuild specifications, alignment specifications, balance specifications, pipe strain specifications, and rebuild shops certification (internal and external).

• Provide reliability input for new projects and capital installations, ensuring maintainability.

• Analyze the effects of preventive maintenance on equipment reliability and maintenance costs for evaluation as a basis for equipment design decisions

• Review all proposed process and equipment changes for compliance with the Management of Change (MOC) process.

• Develop, engineer and manage mechanical projects to improve reliability and satisfy corporate and code requirements.

• Support the development and implementation of Operator Driven Reliability (ODR) programs.

• Support the development and implementation of Precision Maintenance program

• Support the Maintenance and Operations teams in the execution and continuous improvement of Enterprise, Purchasing Asset Management (EPAM) maintenance work system process.

• Develop repair/installation documentation and maintain equipment history within CMMS/EAM systems/Print system/Engineering documentation system.

• Implement and manage condition-based monitoring programs (vibration, oil analysis, infrared, ultrasonic).

• Optimize spare parts strategies for commonality and inventory control.

• Provide technical troubleshooting and support to maintenance and operations teams.

• Participate in training programs related to predictive technologies, diagnostics, and maintenance practices.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Reliability, or related).

• 5+ years of experience in reliability or maintenance engineering (pulp & paper or heavy process industry preferred).

• Proficiency with reliability tools: RCFA, FMEA, RCM, Life Cycle Analysis.

• Experience with CMMS/EPAM systems and predictive maintenance technologies.

• Demonstrated problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred Skills/Certifications

• Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE).

• Background in pulp & paper, or comparable continuous process industries.

• Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.

Work Environment

Primarily mill-based role with routine exposure to industrial environments. Combination of office, field, and shop floor activities. Occasional travel to suppliers, rebuild shops, or training sessions.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $82,500 - $137,500. The benefits for this role include a bonus plan, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 15 days of paid vacation, and 11 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change. Your pay will be based on factors such as your skills, experience, and education.
