Apply now Job no: 510708 Position type: Full-Time 12-Month Department: 183200 - CVM MS Poultry Diagnostic Lab Location: Rankin County Categories: Professional Position Open Date: May 29 2026 Position Function Perform tests on mammalian and poultry samples pertaining to Avian Serology, AGID and Avian Virology to obtain data for monitoring programs and accurate diagnosis and treatment of disease. Responsibilities Perform tests on animal specimens pertaining to Avian Serology, AGID and Avian Virology. The tests include but are not limited to ELISA, hemagglutination inhibition (HI), agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID), and virus isolation (in SPF eggs and cell culture). The testing is completed in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. Perform annual inter- and intralaboratory proficiency tests as required to certify proficiency for Avian Influenza, Mycoplasma gallisepticum, M. synoviae and Equine Infectious Anemia testing. Assist with procedures in different laboratory areas as needed and collaborate with other laboratory personnel. Perform QA/QC duties and maintain QA/QC records required for AAVLD accreditation. Conduct laboratory housekeeping procedures (including but not limited to decontamination procedures, cleaning of glassware, and material preparation). Maintain records of data and perform data analyses. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree with major course work in an appropriate field. Two years of post‑secondary training or education in a life sciences field or other field appropriate for the assignment and two years of related lab work. Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resource Management. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service. Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff, and students to provide a veterinary diagnostic service and aid in the instruction of students. Working Conditions and Physical Effort Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
