Description The commissioned Police Officer position protects life and property, enforces laws and ordinances, preserves the peace, and prevents and investigates crimes. This position is responsible to recognize the social importance of police functions, for tactful and courteous treatment of the public, and for conscientious and efficient performance of duties under general supervision. Essential Duties Enforce tribal, federal, state and local laws. Respond to non-emergency and emergency complaints and matters of a criminal and civil nature. Patrol assigned areas, make arrests, issue citations, transport prisoners, complete crime reports, and handle related records management. Interpret and apply modern principles, practices, and procedures of police work. Resolve a variety of potentially volatile and dangerous situations in a calm, professional, and effective manner. Train and use firearms safely in accordance with departmental rules. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Write clear and comprehensive reports. Additional Duties Drive a patrol car under normal and adverse conditions. Apply knowledge of basic first aid procedures. Clean and maintain assigned firearms and vehicles. Work with the public and coworkers in a professional and courteous manner. Perform duties from time to time that may not be related to regular responsibilities, as required by the Tribe’s commitment to community service. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Knowledge of the criminal justice system and principles, practices, and procedures of police work. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective and appropriate course of action. Proficiency with MS Office programs. Education & Experience Education Required High School Diploma or GED Education Preferred Associates or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field Experience 1 or more years’ experience in security or corrections preferred. Other service-related job experience is highly preferred. Certifications/Licenses Must have and maintain a valid WA state driver’s license without restrictions. Current 1st Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain by date of hire. Other Requirements Must be able to pass an extensive criminal background check (SF86 Background check). Must agree to be subject to the Tribe's Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Policy, including pre-employment screening. Must pass the physical requirements of the state as well as the standard psychiatric test. Graduation from the United States Indian Police Academy and the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission’s 2‑week basic law enforcement equivalency academy. Experienced and Lateral Officers – must have completed a WA state‑recognized basic law enforcement academy and possess or can obtain a Washington State Training Commission Peace Officer Certification. Must complete all mandatory WA state and BIA certification and in‑service training. Must be able to work shift work to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Work Environment Work is performed both indoors, in vehicles and outdoors. It can be physically demanding, stressful, and dangerous. Officers must be alert and ready to react throughout their entire shift, and regularly work at crime and accident scenes and encounter suffering and the results of violence. Tribal Preference The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe follows the Tribal Hiring Preference as outlined in tribal policies, including the Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO). TERO sets forth certain hiring preferences for qualified individuals who are enrolled in a federally recognized Indian tribe, as well as, in some cases, preference for certain family members of those individuals. Additional Information Compensation will be determined based on experience and starts at $76,159.67 per year. This position is a full‑time position and employment is at will. Location: Snoqualmie, WA Benefits First month following hire: competitive medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance benefits for all regular full‑time employees. Paid Holidays: Up to 18 paid holidays are offered every calendar year, including the workdays between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day.
