Overview This person will counsel students, lead workshops/programs in wellness and mental health topics, and conduct outreach programs to include counseling for the student community, on a temporary basis. The terms and conditions of employment for this position are subject to all the provisions of the bargaining agreement between Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Penn College Education Association. Position follows a 185-day work calendar. - Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related discipline. Required
- Doctorate Earned Doctorate (PhD., PsyD.) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related. Preferred
- Licensed in state of PA. Required
- CADC - Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor Certification in alcohol and drug treatment counseling. Preferred
- Three (3) years full-time work experience as a counselor providing assessment and time-limited counseling and psychotherapy. Required
- One (1) year in a student counseling or student mental health setting. Preferred
- Experience in conducting group counseling/support groups. Preferred
- Experience in the development and implementation of treatment plans and the knowledge base needed to interpret psychological diagnoses within a short-term therapy model. Required
- Experience with development and implementation of career/personal development programming and support. Preferred
- Experience in providing alcohol & drug treatment counseling/ programming. Required
- Strong crisis assessment and crisis management skills. Required
- Strong clinical conceptualization skills and ability to develop and implement effective interventions. Required
- Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students, parents/family members, faculty/staff and the public. Required
- Demonstrated understanding of ethical and legal issues in mental health practice. Required
- Ability to work as part of a team in a demanding environment. Required
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in collaboration with interfacing departments. Required
- Sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students, parents/family members, and faculty/staff. Required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Required
- Functional ability with computers and requisite software packages, and experience with electronic scheduling and record-keeping systems. Required
- Demonstrated competence, sensitivity, and commitment to diversity, while serving the needs of a diverse community. Required
- Strong problem solving and listening skills; sound judgment, initiative, and discretion. Required
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development. Required
- Knowledgeable in the area of drug/alcohol abuse prevention and wellness. Required
- Established track record of collaboration with campus and community partners. Preferred
- Provide assessment and time limited counseling and psychotherapy for students.
- Develop and provide group counseling and psychotherapy through general therapy groups or groups that address a specific clinical issue or in response to the needs of a particular group of students.
- Provide a wide range of campus outreach through programs, workshops, and trainings related to wellness and mental health topics to students, staff, and the community.
- Consult with parents, faculty, academic deans, residence life staff, health services, disability services, other campus offices, and students when appropriate and with appropriate authorization to provide quality care to students.
- Provide oversight, case management, and consultation to interns and practicum students.
- Assist the supervisor in marketing and publicizing department activities and programs.
- Maintain clinical records and necessary statistics/documentation of therapeutic and other client contacts.
- Follow ethical and professional best practice standards of the counseling profession and the College.
- Responsible for office coverage on various days/evenings as necessary.
- Provide crisis intervention counseling and follow professional referral protocol as appropriate, including daytime and evening/weekend services as needed.
- Develop and deliver psycho educational programs that facilitate student development.
- Be a regular presence in the College's Residence Life program to provide on location programming.
- Participate in Student Affairs major event activities such as Connections, Student Recognition activities, Residence Life programs, Health and Wellness programming, etc.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and case review.
- Participate in internal and external staff development activities.
- Engage in professional development and technological upgrading activities.
