Responsibilities The Licensed Mental Health Counselor reports to the Assistant Director for Treatment and provides direct clinical services to youth and their families or caregivers. As a primary member of the youth's support team, the counselor works to assist the team in understanding the youth holistically; conceptualizes behaviors related to the placement within familial, community, cultural, and developmental contexts. The counselor continually assesses and draws upon the strengths and assets of the youth and caregivers to facilitate insight, cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and spiritual growth and wellness. Additional duties will be discussed in detail during the interview. Qualifications Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 transfer. NY HELPS Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications Possession of a license and current registration as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State. Must maintain a valid New York State license and registration. This position may be designated 55b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Open to the Public: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, the title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, if the candidate meets the NY HELPS minimum qualifications. Schedule and Hours DJJOY is recruiting clinicians to work evenings and weekends. Offering full-time at 40 hours a week or part-time at 20 hours a week with an evening and weekend schedule. Salary The salary range listed reflects the full range for this graded position, factoring in annual performance advances based on satisfactory annual performance reviews. Candidates with no current State service will begin at the hiring rate (starting rate of the salary range) listed. Benefits Generous Benefits Package, Including Thirteen (13) paid holidays annually. Background Investigation Requirements All prospective employees will be investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective applicant’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. All prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees, checks will be performed against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.
