Investigator (High Scarcity) - Tumor Neurosurgery

We are seeking a highly skilled neurosurgeon-scientist specializing in tumors affecting the central and peripheral nervous systems for a Tenure Track Investigator (High Scarcity) role within the Surgical Neurology Branch (SNB) of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). This position is based in Bethesda, MD, and is part of the Division of Intramural Research at NINDS, which engages in basic, translational, and clinical research, offers neurosurgical care at the NIH Clinical Center, trains emerging investigators, and collaborates with other branches on relevant expertise.

The Division of Intramural Research at NINDS features robust clinical and translational programs in various areas, including surgical neurology, epilepsy, vascular neurology, stroke, neuroimmunology, neurogenetics, and neuroimaging. Additionally, there are vibrant communities focused on basic neuroscience within NINDS and the broader NIH Intramural Research Program (IRP), which can be advantageous for the career development of successful candidates. Key strengths of the IRP pertinent to this role include pioneering clinical trials, immuno-oncology, advanced imaging techniques, and innovative therapeutic approaches.

In this role, the selected individual will not only engage in clinical studies and provide patient care but will also be responsible for establishing and leading a groundbreaking research program that enhances clinical practices. Exceptional abilities in designing and articulating a significant and productive research agenda are essential.

Ideal candidates will showcase an active research focus on the fundamental biology and pathophysiology of tumors in the central and peripheral nervous systems. They should express a willingness to collaborate with experts in neuro-oncology, neuropathology, and radiation oncology, maintain an active neurosurgical practice, and possess an M.D., D.O., or M.D./Ph.D. degree (or equivalent), along with board eligibility or certification.
