CARPENTER APPRENTICE

Job TitleJob DescriptionDuties & ResponsibilitiesDevelop skill in interpersonal communication.Continue developing knowledge of architectural applications.Learn and understand methods and techniques of storing equipment, materials, and supplies.Learn principles and procedures of record keeping.Develop knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws, code and regulations.Have or develop ability to work independently with limited supervision.Develop the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work.Learn how to study specification in blueprints, sketches or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using ruler, pencil, chalk and marking gauge.Perform semi-skilled carpentry work, such as repairing and constructing all aspects of architectural building.Assist with the assembling of pre-cut and pre-fabricated wooden or steel parts to form complete units.Assist with constructing, erecting, installing and repairing structures and fixtures of wood, steel, and wallboard, and conform to local building codes.Develop ability to build rough wooden structures such as concrete forms, tunnels, sewer supports, and temporary shelters.Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures, and repair or replace.Develop the skill to operate a variety of hand and power tools and shop machinery in conjunction with proper training.Fill cracks and other defects in plaster or plasterboard and sand patch, using patching plaster, trowel and sanding tools.Assist with finishing surfaces of woodwork or wallboard in houses and buildings, using paint, other finishes, tools and paneling.Operate company vehicles, forklift and aerial lift in conjunction with proper certification.Receive materials and offload in a safe and proficient manner.Secure and maintain basic tools and perform all tasks to standard.Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.Perform daily tasks in a safe and workmanlike manner in accordance with company policies.Be familiar with company policies and regulations.Follow directions of supervisory personnel of all trades.Maintain an alcohol- and drug-free work environment.Adhere to and sign all pre-task plans and job hazard analysis forms daily.Become thoroughly familiar with current client, company, and OSHA safety.Inform Safety Managers and Superintendents/Supervisor of all safety violations immediately.Report all injuries to safety personnel and foreman immediately.Other duties, as assigned.Employee may be required to work extended hours (more than 8 hours per day), weekends, and holidays.
