Chicopee Public Schools Dupont Memorial Middle School – Chicopee, Massachusetts Job Description TITLE: General Education Teacher – Middle and High School TYPE: Contract Per Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement SALARY: Per Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement REPORTS TO: Building Principal OBJECTIVE: The primary function of a teacher is to deliver the district curriculum in multiple ways that increase student learning and achievement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General Duties and Instruction Teach middle and high school students academic, social, and life skills through the delivery of district instruction, curriculum and assessment. Prepare, administer, correct, and analyze student assessments. Use the conclusions from assessment analysis to develop lessons. Instruct students on rules of conduct and expected behaviors. Manage classes and students in any location, whether on campus or at off‑campus events. Identify students with academic issues and refer them to appropriate service providers. Regularly inform parents or guardians of students’ academic performance and behavior. Maintain records, attendance, and grades as required by the district. Assign lessons and correct homework in a timely manner. Use various teaching methods, such as lecture and demonstration, and utilize audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations. Plan, organize, and deliver differentiated instruction in an appropriate manner consistent with district curriculum. Maintain school and classroom discipline. Meet or call parents to discuss student progress and issues. Teach one or more subjects to students in either Middle or High school. Provide timely feedback to students, parents, and guardians on evaluations. Use appropriate techniques and strategies that promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking skills. Strive to maintain a learning environment that is both physically and emotionally safe. Communicate effectively with fellow staff members and school administration. Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops. Perform related duties such as sponsoring activities or student organizations, assisting students in selecting courses of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems. Other duties as assigned by the principal, school administration, or superintendent of schools. Administration Assist in the communication and enforcement of federal and state laws and district policies and procedures. Work cooperatively with school administration, staff, and special education. School/Community Relations Respect students, parents, guardians, and the community. Assist parents with questions and concerns. Maintain professional relationships with students, parents, and guardians. Respect and embrace students of diverse backgrounds and experiences. Operations Assist in protecting students and property. Assist the Principal or Vice Principal in fire and other emergency drills. Assist the Principal or Vice Principal in management of students (e.g., dismissal, field trips). Professional Maintain a high level of personal integrity, confidentiality, and a strong work ethic. Participate in district professional development.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university. Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Education. ADA and Minimum Qualifications to Perform Essential Job Functions Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate equipment such as computers, copiers, and adding machines. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, including the human body. Must be able to stand, crouch, and bend over for long periods at intervals throughout the day. Data Conception: Require the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable characteristics of data, people, or things. Interpersonal Communication: Require the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including giving instructions, assignments, or directions to subordinates or assistants. Language Ability: Require the ability to read various correspondence, reports, forms, newsletters, schedules, manuals, invoices, requisitions, menus, recipes, journals, etc., and to prepare such items using prescribed formats with correct punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Require the ability to speak before groups with poise, voice control, and confidence. Intelligence: Require the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret technical instructions in a mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to manage abstract and concrete variables. Verbal Aptitude: Require the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions. Must communicate effectively in various technical or professional languages. Numerical Aptitude: Require the ability to use mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, divide; handle decimals and percentages; and apply principles of algebra and geometry. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Require the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape. Motor Coordination: Require the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately when using office equipment. Manual Dexterity: Require the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools with minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Interpersonal: Require the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions and to adapt to stressful and emergency situations. Physical Communication: Require the ability to talk and hear. Must be able to communicate via telephone. Job Requirements At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
