Fort Totten Clinic 100 Gallatin St. NE Washington, DC 20011, USA Description Position Summary The Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Supervisor will provide leadership and oversight to the four NFP nurse home visitors (NHV) as well as carry a small caseload (30-40% of a full caseload capacity based on NFP Model Elements) of participants and be available for participant coverage when/if needed. The two main purposes of the NFP Supervisor role are to 1. Use principles of supervision, reflective practice, strengths approach and participant-centeredness to support staff development and appropriate oversight to the nurse home visitors; 2. Work within the local community and Mary's Center structure and support the NFP Program Manager to assure that the NFP Program is implemented in accordance with established guidelines and contract requirements. Reportability This position will report directly to the Program Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Staffing and Education Recruits and hires all nurse home visitors and administrative data support staff ensuring that they can implement the NFP philosophy and model, in partnership with Program Manager. Ensures that all staff attend required NFP education sessions as outlined in the orientation materials and Mary's Center's contract with the Nurse-Family Partnership National Service Office. Assesses and develops strategies to address knowledge and skill gaps of nurse home visitors and support staff. Provides adequate orientation, professional development opportunities and study time to remediate gaps in necessary knowledge and skill. Assigns participant caseloads and monitor nurse home visitor’s ability to build and manage caseload. Provides useful developmental feedback and confronts and develops a plan with staff to address performance and resolve issues. Builds confidence and skill of nurse home visitors. Provides supervision and evaluation of nurse home visitors and administrative data support staff (including annual leave, annual review, disciplinary action, etc.). Develops and implement regular reflective practice supervision within the program and conduct field visits, both with frequency recommended by NFP Model Elements. Effectively assists nurse home visitors in analyzing complex problems and case situations. Community awareness, support and referrals, and referral systems Based on agency policy, participates in NFP community coalition/advisory board meetings. Develops and maintains community referral sources. Supports PM in developing and implementing external and internal systems to assure timely receipt and disposition of referrals to and from the NFP. Supports PM in developing and implementing strategies for using local print and electronic media to showcase the program. Utilizes agency policies and procedures to guide implementation. Develops and maintains appropriate materials for the community and participants. Oversees the allocation and design of space for NFP materials to be stored. Ensures that all forms and other materials are ordered in a timely manner, organized and available for use by home visitors. Works with PM to inform and the necessary materials and resources need to be included in the annual NFP budget to include gifts, and incentives for program participants. Orders supplies as necessary to maintain inventory. With partnership of Program Manager, manages organizational structure and systems adequately so that home visitors may stay focused on participants. Quality Improvement and Evaluation Oversees and ensure timely and accurate data input from NFP staff into multiple database and reporting requirements. With support of Program Manager, builds and maintains data collection methods, tools, and systems to effectively monitor and evaluate NFP services and outcomes Ensures implementation of quality improvement strategies. Provides routine surveillance of potential participant care incidents. With support of Program Manager, evaluates implementing agency outcomes and interventions. Approves and makes referrals to Child and Family Services Administration (CFSA) to report child abuse and neglect as needed Create and Maintain NFP and Mary's Center Culture Ensures that supervision of NFP NHV utilizes principles and concepts of motivational interviewing, coaching and reflective practice (modeling therapeutic relationships, change theory, self-efficacy, client centered, strength based, and solution focused approaches). Develops and implement regular reflective practice supervision within the program and conduct field visits, both with frequency recommended by NFP. Maintain a Small Caseload Maintains a small caseload of participants, 7 to 10 participants, providing comprehensive nurse services to women and their families, adhering to the nursing process and the NFP model, and Mary's Center programs and policies. Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. Master's Degree in Nursing or closely related field is preferred. Must have a current nursing license for the District of Columbia, in good standing. Three years of experience in public/community health, including home visitation and/or maternal/child health services preferred. Knowledge of infant and child development, parent-child attachment, maternal-infant health, and dynamics of child abuse and neglect preferred. A working knowledge and understanding of patient/client confidentiality issues and HIPAA compliance/regulations are essential. Supervisory experience preferred, including program management and one-on-one supervision. Experience with or knowledge of reflective practice preferred. Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills. Bilingual in second language used by the target audience (in this case, Spanish) is preferred. Physical Demands - Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work Environment - Mostly in a typical office and/or home setting with quiet to moderate noise level. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, and humidity due to outside weather conditions.
