Process Engineer

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE Responsible for evaluating existing processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the production process. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Document all processes by product to ensure predictability and repeatability. Perform continuous improvement analysis of both the equipment and processes. Develop plans and documentation for upcoming production and trial runs. Develop and maintain all standards documentation including running conditions, troubleshooting guidelines, visual standards and process documentation. Write and train all process personnel on improvements in new and existing procedures. Recommend and participate in decisions regarding equipment upgrades, improvements and necessary capital expenditures. Participate and provide support for all new product and manufacturing trials to include development of operating plan, training of line personnel, set up and run documentation and trial result analysis. Participate in reject analysis, customer complaints and material review board activities as required. Participate and assist in coordination and completion of weekly production plan activities. Strong personal computer usage and familiarity with spreadsheets, databases, word processing and production & inventory control systems Ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to work independently with little direction. Ability to take control of events and deal effectively with pressure and stress related to custom manufacturing. Ability to establish clear objective and pertinent measurement systems. Ability to troubleshoot plastics-related process and product problems. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department. POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK Full Time, salary w/ medical and 401K benefits. TRAVEL Some Travel (primarily US) EDUCATION Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or polymer science. EXPERIENCE 5 plus years of manufacturing experience in a plastics processing environment Extrusion background, in particular, sheet extrusion and laminating running multiple lines Experience with working and/or managing in a TQM and ISO 9000 environment.
