Our veterinarians enjoy a modern, well-equipped facility, experienced support staff, a diverse medical and surgical caseload, and the flexibility to practice high-quality medicine while meeting clients where they are.\nFor new graduates, we offer a structured, hands-on mentorship program designed to build clinical confidence and independence. For experienced veterinarians, we offer clinical autonomy, opportunities to pursue professional interests, and potential leadership or partnership opportunities.\n \nWhat to Expect\n\n A schedule that respects your time. Enjoy a 4-day workweek, rotating half-day Saturdays, no on-call responsibilities, and no major holiday coverage. Our appointment-based schedule includes 30-minute doctor visits and a dedicated midday block for lunch, medical records, callbacks, procedures, and collaboration.\n A team that makes your day easier. Our approximately 2:1 technician-to-doctor ratio, experienced support staff, and dedicated floater help keep appointments, treatments, and daily workflows moving smoothly. Technicians manage their own appointments and many routine callbacks, allowing our veterinarians to focus on medicine.\n A modern, 6,000-square-foot hospital. Practice in a beautifully remodeled facility featuring six exam rooms, a spacious two-table surgical suite, separate canine and feline treatment areas, a dedicated isolation ward, and designated surgical recovery space.\n Technology that supports excellent medicine. You'll have access to IDEXX in-house diagnostics, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound, EKG, therapeutic laser, advanced anesthesia monitoring, electrocautery, and active surgical suction. We also utilize EzyVet, Weave, and ScribbleVet AI to simplify documentation and communication.\n A diverse medical, surgical, and dental caseload. From wellness and internal medicine to dermatology, dentistry, ultrasound, and soft tissue surgery, you'll have opportunities to practice a broad range of medicine. Our team performs procedures including spays/neuters, mass removals, cystotomies, pyometras, foreign body surgeries, and more, with strong specialty and emergency referral relationships when needed.\n Structured mentorship and hands-on clinical development. New graduates benefit from a personalized onboarding plan with extended appointment times, side-by-side clinical training, supervised surgical and dental experience, regular mentor meetings, and progressive milestones throughout their first year.\n A genuinely collaborative culture. Our doctors share a workspace, discuss cases regularly, and participate in weekly DVM meetings. We encourage questions, value different perspectives, and believe learning opportunities should build confidence rather than create unnecessary pressure.\n Benefits that support your life outside the hospital. Medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k); paid holidays; PTO; paid CE days and allowance; student loan repayment opportunities; pet discounts; uniform allowance; Employee Assistance Program (EAP); and coverage for professional dues, licensing fees, and AVMA-PLIT.\n Opportunities for long-term growth and ownership. Through Veterinary Practice Partners (VPP), you'll have access to professional development, leadership resources, and potential practice partnership opportunities, supported by experienced operations, marketing, and finance teams.\n\n \nRequirements\n\n Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or VMD degree from an accredited institution.\n Current Indiana veterinary license or eligibility to obtain licensure before starting.\n New graduates, including the Class of 2027, are encouraged to apply!\n Experienced veterinarians with a passion for small-animal general practice are equally welcome.\n A collaborative, compassionate approach to patient care and client communication.\n An interest in practicing high-quality medicine, continuing to learn, and contributing to a supportive team environment.\n\n \nAbout 30th Street Animal Hospital\n30th Street Animal Hospital is a well-established, progressive small-animal general practice that has proudly served the East Indianapolis and Lawrence communities for decades. With a 4.8-star reputation and a Neighborhood Clinic Choice Award, we've built lasting relationships with generations of pet owners who trust us with their companions.\nOur philosophy is simple: Provide gold-standard medical recommendations while recognizing that every pet and family has different needs. We believe in open communication, individualized treatment plans, and helping clients make informed decisions that balance medical recommendations with practical financial considerations.\nOur hospital combines the personal feel of a community veterinary practice with the equipment and resources of a modern medical facility. Our approximately 6,000-square-foot hospital features six exam rooms, a large surgical suite, separate canine and feline treatment areas, and dedicated spaces for diagnostics, isolation, and recovery.\nOur medical capabilities include:\n\n Preventive medicine, wellness care, and chronic disease management\n Internal medicine, dermatology, and endocrine disease management\n Comprehensive dentistry, including digital dental radiography and extractions\n Soft tissue surgery, including spays/neuters, mass removals, foreign body procedures, pyometras, and cystotomies\n Digital radiography, abdominal ultrasound, and in-house IDEXX diagnostics\n Therapeutic laser, EKG, and advanced anesthesia monitoring\n Visiting cardiology services for echocardiograms twice monthly\n Daytime urgent care and sick-patient management\n\nWe maintain strong relationships with nearby emergency and specialty hospitals, including IndyVet and NOAHS, ensuring patients have access to additional care when needed.\nOur doctors typically see approximately 15 patients daily in 30-minute appointments, with a dedicated midday block from 12:00–2:00 PM for lunch, callbacks, charting, ultrasounds, minor procedures, and other clinical responsibilities. This structure creates opportunities for thoughtful medicine, case discussions, and continued learning throughout the day.\n \nCulture, Team & Fit\nWhat truly makes 30th Street Animal Hospital special isn't just our facility or equipment. It's the people who make up our team.\nWe're a close-knit, compassionate group that genuinely cares about our patients, our clients, and one another. We believe exceptional veterinary medicine starts with strong relationships, open communication, and a willingness to work together.\nOur doctors collaborate on cases, share ideas, and support each other's professional development. With daily team huddles, weekly doctor meetings, and regular all-staff discussions, communication and teamwork are part of our everyday culture.\nWe also believe the little things matter. Our team follows up with clients after their pets' visits, sends thoughtful sympathy and support cards during difficult times, and works hard to make every client feel heard, respected, and cared for.\nWe celebrate team accomplishments, recognize individual contributions, and make time for staff appreciation events and activities. Most importantly, we strive to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable asking questions, offering ideas, and learning from one another.\nWe're looking for someone who values teamwork, enjoys building lasting client relationships, and believes that great medicine and genuine compassion go hand in hand.\nWhether you're a new graduate looking for guidance or an experienced veterinarian hoping to share your expertise while continuing to grow, you'll find a team that wants you to succeed.\n \nMentorship & Growth\nFor New Graduates: Real Mentorship, a Clear Plan, and a Team Invested in Your Success\nStarting your veterinary career should be exciting, not overwhelming. At 30th Street Animal Hospital, we understand that developing clinical confidence takes time, experience, and the right support.\nThat's why we've developed a structured, individualized first-year mentorship program designed to help new graduates transition into practice at a comfortable, progressive pace.\nYou'll work alongside experienced veterinarians, including Dr. Sam Smith and Dr. Claudia Samland, who are committed to helping you strengthen your medical knowledge, develop surgical skills, and build confidence in your clinical decisions.\nYour mentorship experience includes:\n\n A gradual introduction to appointments. Begin by shadowing experienced doctors and seeing straightforward wellness and sick-patient appointments. You'll start with extended appointment times, typically around 60 minutes, before gradually transitioning to 45- and 30-minute visits as your confidence and efficiency develop.\n Hands-on medical mentorship. Work alongside experienced veterinarians to discuss cases, interpret diagnostics, formulate treatment plans, and strengthen your clinical decision-making skills.\n Side-by-side surgical and dental training. Begin by observing and assisting with procedures before progressing to hands-on experience with direct supervision. Build confidence in spays, neuters, mass removals, dental procedures, and other surgeries based on your experience and interests.\n Regular mentorship meetings and feedback. Participate in dedicated mentor check-ins, case reviews, and formal 30-, 60-, and 90-day progress evaluations to celebrate accomplishments, identify learning opportunities, and establish goals.\n Progressive clinical independence. Gradually expand your appointment schedule, medical caseload, and procedural responsibilities with experienced doctors available to provide guidance and assistance.\n Opportunities to develop advanced skills. Gain exposure to abdominal ultrasound, diagnostic imaging, cytology, dental extractions, anesthesia, and more as you continue building your clinical foundation.\n Ongoing education and collaboration. Participate in weekly DVM case discussions, lunch-and-learns, continuing education opportunities, VPP Academy, and veterinary peer groups.\n Support beyond your first 90 days. Mentorship continues throughout your first year, with ongoing clinical discussions, professional development opportunities, and a personalized growth plan.\n\nOur goal isn't to rush you into independence. It's to give you the tools, experience, guidance, and confidence to become the veterinarian you want to be.\n \nFor Experienced Veterinarians: Autonomy, Collaboration & Career Growth\nIf you're an experienced DVM, we recognize the expertise and perspective you bring to the table.\nYou'll have the opportunity to practice with clinical autonomy while working alongside colleagues who enjoy sharing ideas and discussing cases. Whether your interests are in surgery, dentistry, internal medicine, diagnostics, or another area of general practice, we want to support the work you enjoy most.\nExperienced veterinarians can also help shape hospital protocols, contribute to clinical discussions, mentor newer doctors if interested, and explore future leadership or partnership opportunities.\nThrough VPP, you'll have access to additional professional development and leadership resources while remaining part of a hospital that values individualized medicine and local decision-making.\nWhether you're beginning your career or looking for your next long-term professional home, we're committed to helping you grow on your own terms.\n \nLife in Indianapolis\nIndianapolis offers a fantastic combination of big-city amenities, welcoming communities, and Midwestern affordability.\nFrom professional sports, concerts, restaurants, and festivals to the nationally recognized Children's Museum, Indianapolis Zoo, and Newfields arts campus, there's always something to explore.\nOutdoor enthusiasts can enjoy nearby parks, hiking, camping, and trails, while convenient access to Indianapolis International Airport makes weekend getaways and travel easy.\nWith a variety of neighborhoods, housing options, schools, and entertainment, Indianapolis is a great place to build both your career and your life outside veterinary medicine.\n \nReady to Find Your Place at 30th Street Animal Hospital?\nWhether you're a 2027 graduate looking for meaningful mentorship or an experienced veterinarian seeking clinical autonomy, professional growth, and a genuinely supportive team, we'd love to connect!\nApply today and discover what makes 30th Street Animal Hospital a great place to practice veterinary medicine.\n \nWe are dedicated to establishing a culture that celebrates all forms of diversity and allows us to be an inclusive service provider in this community.
