You will be responsible for separating data and functionality as necessary, and will demonstrate an understanding and use of automated testing as a productivity multiplier. You are eager to learn and passionate about improvement. You want to understand how systems work, and you think about how to make them work even better. You will work closely with product managers, designers and other engineers to scope, design, and build new features and functionality. You will be working primarily on backend systems. We’re currently using Ruby on Rails as our main language, but prior experience in RoR is not a requirement.Your Success ProfileWhat You Will Work OnAs a Senior Software Engineer for Time Lifecycle, you'll be responsible for unifying time tracking, time off, leave management, shift scheduling, and project tracking across PEO, ASO, and EOR into a single system, replacing three fragmented legacy platforms. At the core of this work is building a compliance engine that automatically handles overtime, labor law, and pay rules across 50+ jurisdictions, while bringing leave management to life with native leave state, payroll pause, and proration support. The work also opens new verticals for Justworks by shipping the shift scheduling and project tracking capabilities that manufacturing, healthcare, and education customers require as table stakes. Ultimately, this role owns the full pipeline from time entry to time payable — meaning the code you write directly determines whether thousands of workers are paid correctly every pay period. Collaborate with a cross functional team to design a next-generation platform to unlock new business capabilitiesTake ownership of designing and implementing APIs, systems integrations and backend servicesPromote engineering excellence through technical leadership, knowledge-sharing and mentorshipInstate best-practices observability and monitoring as “first principles” of all our servicesKeep extremely sensitive data compartmentalized and securePerform other related duties as assignedHow You Will Do Your WorkAs a Senior Software Engineer, how results are achieved is paramount for your success and ultimately result in our success as an organization.
