We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Neurologist to join our healthcare team at Ft. Cavazos/Ft. Hood with the Intrepid Spirit Centers Anomalous Health Incidents (AHI) .
The National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) and Intrepid Spirit Centers (ISCs) are part of a specialized centers dedicated to improving outcomes for service members and families affected by traumatic brain injury (TBI) and related conditions. These centers deliver integrated, evidence-based, and patient-centered care through interdisciplinary teams, while also supporting research and education aligned with the Department of Defense's readiness and resilience priorities. Their model combines TBI rehabilitation, neurological and behavioral health care, integrative medicine, and skills-based training to develop collaborative, individualized treatment plans. In addition, providers use the Anomalous Health Incident Acute Assessment (DHA Form 244) to guide early evaluations of patients exposed to suspected AHIs, a condition still under scientific investigation with symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, hearing loss, and cognitive changes. This role offers an opportunity to work in diverse clinical settings, utilizing advanced skills in medical documentation, EMR systems, and patient education to improve health outcomes.

Schedule:
- Hours of operation are between 6am and 6pm ( typically clinical hours are 7am - 4pm ).
- Staff members are expected to perform 8- or 10-hour shifts, for a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday.
- No on-call
Qualifications:
- Must be a US citizen
- Degree/Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada. This degree must
have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association;
Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education;
Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or
an accrediting body recognized by the U.S Department of Education and the Accreditation
Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) at the time the degree was obtained (e.g.
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), College of Family Physicians of
Canada (CFPC). A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must
provide education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated
by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth
pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and
graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing
Examination. - BLS Certification
- Board Certifications: Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of
Psychiatry and Neurology. - Licensure/Registration: A current, valid, unrestricted license as a Neurologist from a
State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United
States. For foreign medical graduates not covered above, facility officials must verify with
Educational Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met
requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the
applicant. - Internship/Residency: Successful completion of an internship and residency program
(corresponding to the specialty required in the TO) which has been approved by the Accreditation
Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the
American Osteopathic Association. Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of
Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing
direct service in a clinical setting (i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program
in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training). For purposes of this requirement,
graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below:
o An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire
experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine,
surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals
or other institutions accredited for internship training an appropriate accrediting body.
o A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an
institution accredited for training in the specialty by an appropriate accrediting body.
o A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given
medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution
accredited in the United States for such training. - Experience: At least two years of experience providing direct patient care in a clinical
setting within the past five years, privileges as a neurologist.
- Diagnose and treat neurological disorders. Perform neurological examinations and interpret results of diagnostic tests, such as Magnetic resonance imaging (MRIs), CT scans, and EEGs. Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to the individual needs of patients. Providing outpatient care to patients with neurological conditions.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team, including other physicians, nurses, social workers, and therapists. Providing consultation services to other departments and specialists within the healthcare system.
- Participate in case discussions and treatment planning meetings. Periodically provide episodic care to clinic patients on a walk-in basis.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records in compliance with regulations and policies.
- Routinely examine and conduct thorough studies of presenting patients utilizing and ordering evaluation assets including electroencephalography, Magnetic-encephalography (MEG), olfactory testing, neuro-regenerative, and neuro-cognitive evaluations.
- Participate in continuing medical education to stay updated with the latest advancements in neurology.
- Interpret and integrate neurological exam test results with imaging, laboratory data, and information from other disciplines including psychiatry, physiatry, neuro-ophthalmology, and general medicine, for diagnostic and treatment purposes.
- Integrate neurological test results with imaging studies, laboratory data, and clinical findings to prescribe appropriate treatment including neuro-pharmaceuticals and refers clients to specialists within the clinic.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in neurology in collaboration with clinicians' other medical specialties on cases involving complicated and multifaceted neurological and neuropsychiatric problems.
- Oversee and educate interdisciplinary teams responsible for testing and treating patients with neurological issues, ensuring that the highest standards of professional practice and ethics are maintained.
- Continually foster and interdisciplinary approach to care that relies on pattern recognition of physical, behavioral, social, and spiritual conditions.
- Complete training to obtain knowledge and maintain competency in the following systems: MHS Genesis, Dragon dictation software, and Microsoft Office programs.
- Comply with regulatory, MTF, and Joint Commission quality inspection/ peer review/
utilization management requirements, and applicable system applications. - Contractor employees shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established MTF
standards, to include, but not limited to: timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature. - Contractor employees shall only use DoD approved abbreviations for documentation in the
patient health records. - Document and close notes in MHS Genesis within three (3) business days of patient
encounters. - Respond to beneficiary messages submitted and received in the MHS Genesis secure portal
systems within one (1) business day.
