Position Overview

The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse serves as a leader in providing patient-centered care through the nursing process while practicing within the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics, and Nursing Scope & Standards of Practice.

The RN is responsible for:

• Coordinating and delivering quality patient care
• Delegating and directing licensed and ancillary staff
• Supporting positive patient outcomes
• Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams
• Promoting patient safety and customer satisfaction
• Demonstrating accountability and professional practice standards

Experience RequirementsRequired

• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery RN experience

Education RequirementsRequired

• Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing Program
• Registered Nurse Diploma

Preferred

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Required Licensure & CertificationsRequired at Submission

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) License in State of Practice
• BLS (American Heart Association)
• ACLS (American Heart Association)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• CPI Certification (Crisis Prevention Institute)

Supplier Note: BLS, ACLS, CPI, and NRP are required at submission.

Preferred

• Specialty Certification in a Clinical Practice Area

• Utilize the nursing process to provide safe, effective patient care
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans
• Monitor maternal and fetal well-being throughout labor and delivery
• Provide ongoing patient and family education

Leadership & Collaboration

• Direct and support members of the healthcare team
• Delegate responsibilities appropriately
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members
• Promote efficient use of human and fiscal resources

Quality & Performance Improvement

• Evaluate patient outcomes using data and evidence-based practice
• Participate in departmental quality initiatives
• Support strategic unit and organizational goals

Professional Practice

• Maintain accountability for nursing practice
• Respect cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity
• Adhere to all regulatory and accreditation standards
• Demonstrate professionalism and ethical conduct at all times

• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
• Adhere to accreditation and regulatory agency standards

• Immediately report safety, privacy, ethical, or compliance concerns

Physical RequirementsHeavy Work Classification

Position may require:

• Exerting 50–100 lbs occasionally
• Exerting 25–50 lbs frequently
• Exerting 10–20 lbs constantly

Additional physical demands include:

• Frequent standing and walking
• Pushing and pulling equipment
• Lifting and repositioning patients
• Working in a fast-paced healthcare environment

This position routinely involves exposure to:
