Position Summary

The Department of Chemistry invites applicants for a Full-time, 9-month, Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor, Organic Chemist or Medicinal Chemist position. The position begins in August 2027.

The Department of Chemistry, part of the College of the Sciences and Mathematics, works to provide the highest quality of chemistry education. The department operates the Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD) program and supports research across all areas of chemistry. The department encourages creativity and offers support & mentorship. The faculty members serve as both instructors and researchers.

The faculty position involves teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses that may be offered in-person, online, and/or via distance education modalities. The ideal candidate will use innovative teaching skills and demonstrate attention to the learning and teaching needs of the department's students. The individual will leverage their experience, expertise, and training to the success of the various department programs. The faculty member will collaborate with other departmental faculty and staff to ensure student success.

Responsibilities include :

• Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level classes and laboratory in Organic Chemistry. Additional courses within area(s) of specialization may be assigned based on department needs, including support of the Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD) program by teaching PPD-specific courses.
• Advise and mentor students. Provide academic and professional development support
• Develop a robust research program in organic and/or medicinal chemistry
• Serve the University and the community through various service activities
• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related field/discipline. ABD may be considered - must be completed on or before July 31, 2027
• At least 2 years of experience teaching and conducting research in Organic and/or Medicinal Chemistry
• Experience advising and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in or conducting research relevant to the pharmaceutical industry
