Case Manager

Job Summary The Case Manager is responsible for providing case management and supportive services to unaccompanied immigrant children released from federal custody. Responsibilities Conduct home visits and phone contacts with the dual purpose of assessing safety and appropriateness of the child’s placement with the UC’s sponsor, and connecting UC to services in the community to address risk factors. Perform ongoing case management with a focus on screening and making appropriate referrals to address child’s needs in the following domains: placement issues, safety issues, education, health, mental health, legal/immigration proceedings, substance abuse, independent living, juvenile/criminal justice and child enrichment activities. Provide crisis intervention services directly, as needed, or connect family to services to ensure minor’s safety and well-being in a crisis situation. Submit detailed and thorough documentation in accordance with agency and ORR requirements. Utilize social work best practices for thorough assessments of a UC’s progress and services provided. Carries a case load varying on program need (Staff-to-case ratios for Post Release Services Case Managers will establish caseloads of 1:25 but may with ORR’s permission have a case load not to exceed 1:40). Completes Notice of Concerns (NOCs), per federal policy requirements. Maintain case file documentation in accordance with ORR requirements, and conducts internal chart reviews to monitor documentation compliance. Participate in team meetings, staff in-service training and department meetings. Completes, timely and accurate timesheets and other personnel/administrative records as required. Demonstrate a commitment to developing a thorough knowledge and application of the Sanctuary model and other organizational policies & practices. Participate in staff development, in-services, and training related to workplace effectiveness; model professional behaviors and implement improvements to business practices with awareness of their impact in a trauma-informed behavioral healthcare organization. Other duties as assigned to ensure successful operation of program/department. Competencies Communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing in English. Applicable federal and state laws. Education and Work Experience Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW) or an equivalent degree in education, psychology, sociology, or other behavioral science equivalent. Bi-lingual in Spanish and English, written, read and verbal. Must clear a language proficiency test. Experience working with immigrant populations. Attained age 21 years or older before first day of employment in position (ORR). Preferred Position Qualifications Knowledgeable about family preservation, kinship care, and/or general child welfare. Experience writing professional, thorough assessment reports. ORR experience. Knowledge of Federal, State and agency regulations. Knowledge of adolescent developmental issues, trauma, abuse and neglect, substance abuse and dependence, delinquency, peer influence, and related group and individual interventions. Other Requirements Able to work shift hours and days, as assigned. Position may require work outside of usual work hours on occasion. Regular travel via airplane and/or car to visit sponsors and clients in their homes. Hold a valid driver's license and must maintain minimum auto insurance policy for driving a personal vehicle. Pass a criminal history background check through Morrison and a suitability determination investigation through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Current CPR and Standard First Aid required. 40 hours of required training per year. Working Conditions Environment: Work is done in clinical offices, community settings, including Morrison Residential, administration buildings, public locations, and social service sites. Mental demands: Work assigned is diverse and may involve addressing new and unique circumstances; the work might be unpredictable and disrupt planned tasks, requiring flexible time management. Physical demands: Ability to remain calm and emotionally available serving youth, adults and/or families who have experienced trauma. Proficient with office equipment and physical movement; ability to perform physical interventions if needed in accordance with program and training.
