POSITION SUMMARY

The Inventory Clerk is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records and supporting the day-to-day operations of the Inventory and Materials Department. This position performs data entry, processes inventory transactions, verifies material quantities and identification, assists with receiving and shipping documentation, and helps maintain accurate inventory throughout the steel manufacturing facility.

The Inventory Clerk will work closely with Production, Purchasing, Receiving, Shipping, and Inventory Control to ensure materials are properly documented, tracked, and available when needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Enter and maintain accurate inventory transactions in the company’s ERP/inventory management system.

·       Receive and process inventory paperwork for incoming materials.

·       Verify quantities, descriptions, part numbers, material grades, dimensions, heat numbers, and other identifying information.

·       Maintain accurate records of raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, remnants, and shop supplies.

·       Process material transfers between inventory locations and departments.

·       Assist with tracking material issued to production jobs.

·       Enter material usage, returns, transfers, and adjustments into the inventory system.

·       Assist with maintaining accurate inventory locations throughout the facility.

·       Prepare and maintain inventory reports, spreadsheets, and documentation.

·       Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly cycle counts.

·       Investigate inventory discrepancies and report significant variances to the Inventory Control Manager.

·       Assist with physical inventory counts and annual inventory audits.

·       Review inventory records for accuracy and identify missing or incorrect information.

·       Coordinate with Receiving to ensure incoming steel and materials are properly documented and entered into inventory.

·       Coordinate with Shipping to ensure shipped materials and finished products are properly recorded.

·       Maintain accurate documentation for material traceability.

·       Assist in identifying obsolete, damaged, excess, or unidentified inventory.

·       File and maintain inventory, receiving, shipping, and material documentation.

·       Communicate inventory issues to appropriate departments.

·       Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

·       Maintain a clean and organized work area.

·       Perform other duties as assigned.

STEEL MANUFACTURING RESPONSIBILITIES

The Inventory Clerk will work with a variety of steel products and materials and may be responsible for documenting:

·       Steel plate and sheet

·       Structural steel

·       Cut-to-size materials

·       Work-in-process materials

·       Finished goods

·       Remnants and drops

·       Scrap

·       Consumables and shop supplies

·       Material assigned to specific customer or production jobs

The employee must be able to accurately record information such as material grade, thickness, width, length, quantity, weight, heat number, job number, and storage location .

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

·       High school diploma or GED preferred.

·       Previous clerical, inventory, warehouse, manufacturing, or materials experience preferred.

·       Basic computer skills and ability to learn inventory/ERP software.

·       Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

·       Good organizational and recordkeeping skills.

·       Basic math skills.

·       Ability to read and understand inventory records, material tags, purchase orders, and shipping/receiving documents.

·       Ability to communicate effectively with employees and supervisors.

·       Ability to work independently and prioritize daily responsibilities.

Preferred

·       Previous experience in a steel manufacturing or metal fabrication environment.

·       Experience with an ERP or inventory management system.

·       Previous inventory clerk, warehouse clerk, receiving clerk, or materials clerk experience.

·       Familiarity with steel products, grades, dimensions, and heat numbers.

·       Experience with Microsoft Excel.

·       Forklift experience/certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

·       Ability to stand and walk throughout the facility as needed.

·       Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and occasionally climb.

·       Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds when required.

·       Ability to safely work around forklifts, overhead cranes, steel products, and manufacturing equipment.

·       May be required to work in outdoor or non-climate-controlled areas.

·       Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, gloves, and other required equipment.
