A bookkeeper manages an organization's daily financial records, tracks incoming and outgoing money, and keeps accounts accurate.
Core Responsibilities
- Recording Transactions: Enter daily sales, purchases, receipts, and payments into accounting systems.
- Reconciling Accounts: Match bank statements with internal ledgers to find and fix errors.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable: Send customer invoices, track unpaid bills, and process payments to vendors.
- Payroll Processing: Calculate employee wages, withhold taxes, and issue timely paychecks.
- Financial Reporting: Generate balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss summaries.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Software Proficiency: Experience using tools like QuickBooks or Xero and spreadsheets.
- Math and Detail: Strong attention to detail for managing debits, credits, and data entry.
- Knowledge: Understanding of basic accounting methods like double-entry bookkeeping and cash flow tracking.
- Education: High school diploma with relevant experience, or an associate's degree in accounting or business.
