Staff Accountant

Job Summary


We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This role involves managing a broad spectrum of accounting functions, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting the organization's financial health. Duties

• Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory requirements.
• Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing processes.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, and collections.
• Conduct bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations to verify accuracy of financial data.
• Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and other regulatory standards.
• Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
• Maintain accurate records using various accounting software such as PeopleSoft, Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on projects related to corporate finance, governmental accounting, or non-profit accounting as needed.
• Mentor junior staff members by sharing expertise in technical accounting practices and financial concepts.

• Proven experience with corporate accounting, governmental accounting, or non-profit accounting environments.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, SOX compliance requirements, and securities law considerations.
• Proficiency in accounting software including QuickBooks, Quicken, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft or equivalent systems.
• Solid knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping principles, debits & credits, journal entries, and account reconciliation techniques.
• Expertise in financial report writing and interpretation of complex financial statements.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to perform cash flow analysis and financial management tasks.
• Familiarity with tax experience related to Wills, Trusts & Estate Law is a plus.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting; experience with other financial software is desirable.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to multitask effectively under deadlines.
• Effective communication skills for mentoring team members and collaborating across departments.
