Location: Bordewich/Bray Elementary School or Carson Middle School

License: Possess a license(s) issued by the Physical Therapy Board of Nevada (State of Nevada Department of Health).

Open To: Current Carson City School District full-time contracted and licensed employees only.

Hours Per Day: Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Session Dates: June 16, 2026, through July 23, 2026, with the week of July 6th off.

Note: Position is strictly contingent upon sufficient funding and student enrollment.

Salary: Licensed contracted staff will receive the certified hourly rate of pay.

Summary: The physical therapist will implement Carson City School District Board of Trustees and special education policies and procedures in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) for students with disabilities under the direction of the administration assigned to the Student Services Division. The focus of therapy is not rehabilitative in nature, but viewed as a needed educational support for students. The physical therapist will provide physical therapy services to students with disabilities as outlined in the Individual Education Plan (IEP), as enrolled in a Carson City School District special education program or as referred for assessment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conducts assessments of identified students with disabilities to determine the need for educationally related physical therapy services.
• Analyzes and reviews physical therapy assessment reports presented to the IEP team for consideration of services.
• Provides recommendations to the IEP team regarding the frequency and delivery for educationally related physical therapy services and referral procedures.
• Plans, schedules, implements, and evaluates appropriate educationally related physical therapy programs.
• Monitors student progress and develops an appropriate treatment plan to meet individual needs of students.
• Collaborates on the development of present levels, goals, and benchmarks in IEP team meetings.
• Evaluates the need for and provides training to staff and parents/guardians, as appropriate, for use of adaptive equipment to meet educationally related physical therapy needs.
• Develops a climate that promotes positive learning conditions.
• Attends IEP meetings, as appropriate.
• Maintains accurate records and provides annual progress reports, as needed.
• Works professionally with administrators, staff, parents/guardians, and the community.
• Maintains a safe and orderly therapy area.
• Consults with outside agencies/therapists regarding therapy reports (parents/guardians permission).
• Participates in other job-related duties and activities related to the position, as assigned.

• Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to provide instruction in a student's living situation (home, school, and community) that may affect the student's adjustment and ability to make appropriate use of the educational experience.
• Work cooperatively with students, parents/guardians, peers, administration, and community members.
• Guide the learning process toward achievement of established IEP goals.
• Participate as an active member with other faculty and staff.
• Develop a climate that promotes positive learning conditions.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding plans for educationally related physical therapy services.
• Communicate effectively both written and orally.
• Maintain and improve professional competence.

Position Requirements/Education and Training:

• Bachelor's degree in physical therapy from an accredited college or university.
• Pass an examination approved by the Physical Therapy Board of Nevada.
• Licenses and Certifications:
• Possess or be able to acquire by time of appointment to the position, a license issued by the Nevada Department of Education (optional).
• Possess a license(s) issued by the Physical Therapy Board of Nevada (State of Nevada Department of Health).
• A valid driver's license that allows the applicant/employee to legally operate a motor vehicle in Nevada.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Strength: Heavy Work – Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Incumbents normally work during evening hours. Will be required to use a variety of chemicals on a daily basis. May occasionally be required to wear goggles, gloves, face shields and back supports. Incumbents must be in good physical condition and must take a physical examination at the district's expense.
