Healthy Living Coordinator

Description Job Type: Part‑time Under the direct supervision of the Director of Member Experience and in accordance with the mission and purpose of the Ann Arbor YMCA, the Healthy Living Coordinator will work to provide high‑quality experience for all members. The incumbent will assist in supporting, mentoring and orienting wellness floor staff, maintaining a proper working environment of the wellness floor, assist in the implementation of programs, and work with other departments to embrace the YMCA culture and spirit, focusing on building relationship skills and superb customer service. This position will manage the administrative duties of the Personal Training Program. The individual will ensure the safety and wellbeing of all members, guests and program participants throughout the facility at all times while also making sure that wellness floor equipment is routinely maintained and in good working order. They will also look to effectively work with many programs, instructors, and participants throughout the YMCA that provides the surrounding community with opportunities to feel active, empowered, and healthy. Essential Functions Assisting the HLD of the new team member training, or other duties to help the wellness floor staff be supported. Providing routine daily inspections of all wellness floor equipment for proper functioning and cleanliness. Being responsible for providing equipment orientations to new members, providing InBody analysis scans and promoting Healthy Living programs throughout the YMCA. Aiding in the support of Health Management programming, Pedaling for Parkinson's, LiveSTRONG, and Silver Strength Bootcamp. Assisting the Director of Healthy Living to provide support for all other session‑based programming and our group fitness classes. Managing administrative work for Personal Training – Intake Form collection, distribution, tracking and redemption. Occasionally substituting as needed for group exercise classes and other Healthy Living programs. Working with other departments within the YMCA to effectively advertise not only Healthy Living programs, but any other venture the YMCA is offering. Providing support for other YMCA departmental offerings. Participation might extend into morning, nights, weekends, and off‑site locations. Healthy Living Be active and visibly involved with members, volunteers and staff in a positive, friendly manner that communicates and demonstrates the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Engage in active listening with members and program participants in order to build relationships, understand individual’s goals and interests, and take the initiative to ensure the member has a positive experience. Assist in implementing strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA. Demonstrate cultural competencies and respect for people of all backgrounds by incorporating cultural, linguistic and familial values and beliefs into the program and culture of the YMCA. Provide excellent customer service to members and act as an example and role model for all staff at the YMCA. Participate in special events and activities to enhance the member experience and volunteer opportunities. Help to promote the marketing and distribution of program information. Decision Making/Staff Development Assist the Director of Healthy Living in development of the wellness floor staff by offering educational opportunities for continued professional growth. Support the Director of Healthy Living in conducting inventory and operating supplies for the department. Complete weekly preventative maintenance checks on all wellness floor equipment. Complete weekly supply checks for first aid items. Report all maintenance problems and reach out to the proper maintenance partners in a timely fashion. Be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing all identified equipment, workspaces, and facility areas as directed. Work collaboratively between membership and wellness to provide a safe, welcoming environment for all. General Functions Support the mission, vision, and goals of the Ann Arbor YMCA; promote character development and the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Be current with YMCA communications. Promote the value of diversity and the importance of being an inclusive organization to others inside and outside of the organization. Expected to take advantage of opportunities for self‑development and growth. Attend training courses and conferences assigned. Participate in special projects as assigned. This is not intended to be all‑inclusive. It is understood that the employee will also perform other reasonably related business duties if requested by the supervisor. Requirements Minimum two years beyond high school education is required. Bachelor's degree in a related field, knowledge of exercise science (including functional anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition, and injury prevention) is preferred. Experience in the customer service sector is required; YMCA experience is strongly preferred. Ability to communicate and listen effectively as well as an aptitude for working harmoniously with a wide variety of people in a patient, professional manner. The ability to speak more than one language is preferred. Must possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Must be able to coordinate multiple responsibilities efficiently and meet all deadlines. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency. Must have access to reliable transportation and successfully complete MVR. Certifications: Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor certification required by a nationally accredited agency after 1 year of employment. Current CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment. Working Conditions This position will have set hours and will require occasional early mornings, evenings, weekends, and off‑site responsibilities away from the Ann Arbor YMCA. Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds. Must be able to assist participants weighing up to 180 pounds. Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate. Effectively manage daily tasks with limited supervision.
